National Cup

Well since you asked re: SCNPL and YSR

Strikers #3
Oxnard #5
TFA #7
Colton #10
Santa Monica #12
Heat #2 (Nevada)
Oceanside #15
Celtic #20
AVSC #29
Downtown #34
Legends #91

Hard pressed to put together a more difficult group of 11 teams.

Probably more competitive than CRL.

When you look at the two usclub offerings: http://www.nplwest.com which is closed to teams not in da & https://www.nationalpremierleague.com which is open, the comp appears much greater in the open scnpl league with first teams while nplwest has a bunch of 2nd or even 3rd teams.

Guess open competition can increase the competition level.

Cal south only let's you play in this tournment if you played in one of there fall sanction leagues which closes it off to certain teams that might consider if it were open.

Would be nice to see something that includes Cal South teams, usclub (npl, ecnl, upsl, super y, etc), ussda and not always have these separate cup & tournments for each. Never get to play some teams or see some friends they way things are now. Tournments and leagues what to segregate not integrate which is too bad.

Yes. Agreed.

Particularly in a market like SoCal with so much talent and at an age group where boys are evolving into men and as such the game changes so much.

League game kickoff today with a upset

Celtic Academy 3-1 Total Fútbol Academy

OceanSide Breakers 3-1 Legends

Oxnard United 1-0 Heat fc

No surprises at National Cup weekend 1. Seedings were pretty accurate. Silverlakes fields a bit short for this age group - creates more random outcomes. Some very entertaining CRL games as well. Boca Jrs very very strong. Oxnard Strong. Rebels strong. High intensity.

Any other teams look strong? weak?

This was a pretty big upset. This cannot possible be that same TFA team that won the title last year. They did win their second game convincingly, but given their scNPL performance this has to be a different team.

Can't say I've seen these teams in person but Rebels beating Oxnard and Boca Juniors to take crl is a bit of surprise.

Makes you wonder does Rebels play better as a comprehensive team or has the habit of Boca & Oxnard taking players on from other teams & ODP players caught up with them?

Maybe Oxnard bit off more than they can chew, they were dominated 4-0 by Strikers SC I heard in the NPL. Assembling a ringers team with players from TFA, DMS, etc some of which don't even practice with them gets Oxnard results most of the time but in the long run teams that play together as a team seem to be up to the challenges. Will Boca & Oxnard be super motivated now and make good runs in the cup or will another upstart team emerge?

Oxnard - Rebels was brutal game with heat, hard play, etc., just before Oxnard - Strikers, so that had something to do with the Oxnard - Strikers outcome. Point taken on continuously adding players - I think that strategy hurts when team needs to come together in a tough spot. Rebels were good in the counter, but I thought Oxnard looked like the better team. Boca looked devastating vs. Rangers. Boca has a really solid attack. Didn't see Boca - Rebels final. A little surprised at that outcome.

In addition, an Oxnard player got a red card three minutes into the Strikers game. They were playing with only 10.

Wasn't at the game but heard the Strikers speed was way to much for oxnard and they just couldn't keep up so they tried other things that didn't work. When one team has 90% of the 2nd half procession and just was passing it around and the other team can't get a shot on goal sounds like domination to me anyway you slice it, excuses or not.

This is what Oxnard does and have been doing for awhile now...they have a core group that have been there forever and then cycle secondary players in and out. Technically, they have some of the best players in Socal and even though all these ODP kids have been playing together for some time, I really think it affects their chemistry. My guess was that Boca would win NC but I'm starting to think maybe a darkhorse will take it. Interesting times...

Odd that 2nd round groups aren't posted. Isn't it automatic? Or do they reseed 2nd 16? Doubt that.

Despite not having one of the top two or three threats, I would think Group B would be a tough place to end up.

Anyone see a dark horse or two from round 1 that might have a chance at a deep run?

Semi finalists: BOCA, Oxnard, SDSC, and Santa Barbara ???

Nevermind. It looks like they do reseed it. I figured it out. Still don't know why they haven't posted.

Don't know what software there using but would guess it's not working that great: first couple draft revisions were off, might be manually adjusting things.

TFA was in the Oxnard bracket #30 seed last draft I saw but who knows if that will be the final published version?

They rank all 32 from round 1 based on pts and tiebreakers (just like wildcards) and reseed them based on the results, so TFA at #30 makes sense based on their results.

Cal south math I guess, when the defending champs TFA are seeded #30 and the CRL winner is #8. They seemed to rank those CRL teams a bit premature it would seem not that I have a horse in the race but here you go on the brackets, at least they corrected those on the 3x or so revision:

Galway Downs for semi & final bummer

Hard to compare the success of the two leagues this year- National Cup is becoming another Coast League League Cup.

Top teams and others from SCDSL discovery did not play ( NPL , Dallas cup etc) or removed their DA and potential DA players from their roster prior to N Cup.

Coast- 3 of the top 5 Coast teams are doing well. TFA lost players to DA but are still a solid team. BOCA LA also lost some players to DA and are rumored to be losing several more after the season.
