UCLA WOMENS SOCCER NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

Down by 2 with less than 11-minutes to go, getting the tying goal in the last 20-seconds! Its a beautiful (and cruel for North Carolina) game.

Im sure there is many SoCal club players represented on the team.
My dd had the honor and privilege to play with Turner in HS and saw her battle with the Blues for a few years. I am super proud of her and her parents for raising amazing kid, both on and off the field. A few others she played against had impact as true Fr, like Cook and Lemos. A very talented team. I would also like to say that the class of 2022 has some really great players impact the college game.

Very impressed with both coaches. NC coach stated it was one of the greatest finals he had ever been involved with. UCLA coach so calm during the games.
Both coaches? AD is the most overrated coach in the country. Gets the top prospects every year and hasn't won the championship now in 11 years. He's more of a figurehead now, anyway. But, a good coach - after losing all their games this year because they couldn't keep leads - would have worked on slowing the game down with possession and passing the ball back to preserve a lead. UNC only knows how to go forward with the gas pedal to the floor, even if up 2-0 with 10 minutes to play. Terrible coaching and it cost them the Natty, again.

UCLA coach and team deserves credit - down 2-0 and both remained focused and calm. AND, once they went up 3-2, they KNEW how to run out the clock on ruffled UNC. UCLA owned the OT's. That said, all these players were recruited by Cromwell and her asst. So, give full credit where credit is due.

Easy tiger, lol. I am die hard Bruin fan oh canada and full credit goes to the players for not quitting. The coaches who made it happen this year deserve partial credit. NC/UCLA pick the best of the best of the YNT players every year and with the right coach, they should win every year but they don't because the best team with the best players don't always win in futbol. Spain lost to Morocco, lol. Talk about people being upset with missing those dumb PKs. I agree with your assessment on AD. He should have slowed the game down and run the clock out so he messed up big time and I am not impressed with that. Call time out at least and tell the girls to park the bus for 10 minutes. Those girls are big, fast and super athletic at NC. Go Bruins!!!

AD…overrated…he’s been in 7 or 8 PD the last 11 National Championships. He’s one of the most successful coaches in NCAA history across all sports, men’s and women’s. But overrated? How or why do you think he gets the top recruits?

He’s been around for a while & has a good relationship with USSF and Nike.

Most of his success came in the 80's and 90's when UNC was the only real school in the country that supported womens soccer. For that, I give him credit for having foresight and being a pioneer. But now, he's a dinosaur, and the school and its relative soccer riches - best stadium and facility in college, brand name, and his good-ole-boy soccer network of connections with US soccer and Nike (as MacDre points out), etc. is what pulls in the top players. Yet, he is still worshipped as some soccer genius. Nah. Pioneer, yes. Great coach, no. You or I coaching could get those players into the College Cup - they are self-motivated. I'm sure he wants to retire on top, but it's time to turn over the reins.

His players have an alarming injury rate (likely due to overtraining and the pressure cooker environment that is ever-present amongst the team), his awful training tactics were well documented in the book "Warrior Girls", and his tradition for winning has significantly declined over time (last year they didn't even make the ACC tournament, let alone the College Cup). To be up 2-0 with 10 minutes to play and lose in the Natty Final is inexcusable from a coaching perspective, especially when you see how they didn't change their style to run out the clock.

So many other coaches achieve so much more with so much less.

Please name 2 Coaches with better records and more NCAA Final 4’s than AD over the past 10 years….

I know several girls currently playing at UNC and your assumptions are not accurate. Yes he’s old and will likely retire soon, but the game has not passed him by and despite your opinion, the facts say otherwise.

Disclaimer - I was pulling for UCLA as my DD will be a Blue Devil next season and I’ve always hated the Tarheels.

they win due to recruitment, not coaching acumen. that's the original point. MK formerly of FSU, better coach. JR at BYU, better coach. I could name at least 5-6 better coaches (not better records due to recruitment) just off top of my head.

Funny how you discount one of the most important aspects of Coaching (recruiting). You list some solid Coaches, but they have yet to prove themselves over a period of time.

Do you think think AD would be a good recruiter at Fresno State w/o USSF and Nike? Dude epitomizes what’s wrong with the sport!

Sorry but your opinion doesn’t carry much weight. No offense to Fresno St but what is the aspirational value of that program?

I think your almost there. AD isn’t the major factor in recruiting, it’s UNC. Dude would be a nobody in Fresno Homie.
My opinion carries more weight than a FANBOY whose analysis is lacking ✊

Better question……what would UNC’s program be without AD?
