State Cup-why not participate

I noticed some teams are not listed as accepted teams on the younger side. Just curious as to why a team would not participate, since they played in the league schedule. Anyone have any ideas ?

Sometimes the team is not interested in playing State Cup because many players are participating in other sports and the scheduling conflicts. I've been with teams that had a bad year and many players left after league play, the team simply didn't have the roster numbers to sign up. Sometimes the team disbands all together for one reason or another. Or they may have events scheduled elsewhere they are attending. Lot of possibilities

Travel

there are only 4 venues and 3 of them are quite the trek for La and teams north of LA

I see pool play could extend to 2 weekends , really hoping with 4 team brackets ( at least in my daughters age group) that pool play can be wrapped up in one weekend .

But will give credit to the league, no games Super Bowl Sunday or Presidents weekend

those are good changes

We have 2 teams from La in our bracket , so I’m pretty certain we are going be going to Silverlakes , which isn’t terrible , but definitely the furthest venue from us

Often clubs do tryouts and change lineups before State Cup.

What this means is there might be a situation where a player has been dropped but is needed for State Cup. Many players in this situation will choose not to play. To avoid all the drama some teams drop out of State Cup.

I've also seen situations where a player is recruited to another club + will choose not to play in State Cup with their old club. Again to avoid all the drama teams drop out of State Cup

Which state cup are you talking about So Cal or Cal South. Both are over priced and teams would prefer to play competition that fits their level. Why pay $000 to travel 2-4 hours over a few weeks to loose to bigger club with stacked team. Better to stay local get better matches and spend a quarter of the money and save on Hotels and travel.

My dd played in the Snow Bowl out in Antelope Valley back in 2011. The Wind Bowl was the following week but we didn't advance. My buddy had a dd gk that scored from her punt because of the wind. You guys have it made today and no one should be complaining :)

My dd made a tough choice to leave for greener pasture and coach got wind of her decision at State Cup. It was tough emotionally because she loved her coach. She played to the end and lost in the QFs to Carlsbad Lightning. Her new Blues team won State Cup the next year though and all was well :) After 11 years of travel ball & chasing medals, soccer in the States was way too much about winning the medals ((my kid loves to win & so do I and we were hooked)) and not enough about learning how to actually play the game the right way. I agree with flynight2. We need to slow down and stay & play locally and build a local team.

Curious if anyone has experience with the Transfer policy and deadline for State Cup. My players team is not playing State Cup and I've read the SoCal State Cup Handbook, the League Handbook and the Tryout Policy which are all very confusing. They may have an opportunity with another club to play in State Cup.

Is the player an older or younger ?

Younger so surmising Dec 1st. But this makes it a little less clear:

"The SOCAL Transfer Policy applies to players for State Cup. If a team is not playing in State Cup then all players on that team become eligible to transfer to other teams and the Transfer Policy does not apply. "

The way I read it, your player would have to transfer to the other team's club in order to play with that team. It seems like the deadline to be eligible to play state cup would be the "transfer deadline" for state cup, Dec 1. Howver, the language for the carve out for being on a roster that isn't playing state cup isn't clear. It may be as late as the Roster Freeze date, Jan 18.

You'd have to have someone from the "other team's" club call MC or CC to get confirmation.

I remember the Wind Bowl. Every free kick was on a moving ball. A witnessed a U10 keeper punt the ball that was blown back to bounce in front of her and over her head into the goal

This could be a reason, lack of attention to detail on the part of Socal Soccer League.

The team at the top of this division, the team that won their league, Socal Soccer League allowed them to move down and play in the Premier Cup, flight 4 of State Cup. A team that scored 45 goals and gave up 7. If it is intentional on the teams part, that's some top notch sandbagging going on there.

I know a winless flight 1 team that is not playing state cup. Suspect the team disintegrated after a bad season.

The Blues don't teach kids to play the right way? Could you expand on that? Are you referring to having big girls and play kick ball?

Each coach has different style. AR teaches pass & go. Baker was direct and win. TB was a little of both & excellent with the mental game for the female. 100% all taught win. Big, fast and athletic=win. Americans like to come in first.

The team was misassigned to Flight 4, asked 3 weeks ago for it to be corrected and nothing changed.

Disappointing to say the least but rather typical for the league.
They make the seeding mistake and still can't get it together when its brought to their attention by the team that wants to be in a position to see what they can do in the competition. Big ups for posting the info.
