Signing Day - new CA law on monetizing your likeness

Congrats to everyone that signed a National Letter of Intent yesterday. Very exciting!!
My instagram was full from all of the clubs that I follow with pictures of players signing. Seemed to be a LOT more females than males.
I find it interesting that HS soccer isn't why these players are going to play in college, but Letter of Intent signing all take place in the high school gym. Many of them are DA players and not even allowed to play in HS.

With the new law in California coming in to play that will (allegedly) allow college athletes to make money from their likeness..... And with clubs using NLI/College Recruiting as a big part of their marketing.... Is there a chance that this becomes something that will become an issue?

I was thinking the same thing coach. Since my dd did a little club hopping back in the day, we get all the FB and Instagram posts from her old clubs still and I marvel at the marketing of this girl player committed here and this one there. I was looking at a friends pics on FB of dd who played no HS Soccer. All the other 24 kids all played for their HS varsity team. My dd school of 200 or so Sr class had 3 commit to UCLA, 1 to USC, two to ASU and a bunch other schools and all of them played varsity sports for the high school. The soccer clubs market the signing and boom, you have a nice little business.

Or what about the "Alumni"posts.
"Julie Smith who played for us when she was 11 was just named the Pac-16 defensive player of the week at Somewhere State U"

In San Diego, signing day for all county athletes is held at Petco Park and is extensively covered by KUSI. It is a very nice thing for all the athletes. There are a few schools how have their own signing celebrations however. One school in particular had it's own signing day, but did not allow DA players to participate since they did not play for the school. The schools initials are CC.

Interesting idea on the California law about receiving compensation. Isn't the NCAA implementing something similar?

Look what just hit my inbox. Pics of all the girls with college sweat shirt on. A little Promo of likeness going on at the Big Clubs?
Surf Signs a Record Number on Girls on National Letter of Intent Day! Typo too!!! Not "on" but "of"
"Our mission is to Create the Best Experiences and Opportunities for kids. We certainly were true to our mission last night as we helped over 50 Surf senior girls officially sign to pursue their dreams next year in college. Surf had 21 girls from San Diego sign and another 30 Surf players around the country, making Surf the #1 brand in college access for female soccer players. All of the San Diego girls were celebrated last night by the younger teams and enjoyed a special event with their families and peers in our Surf classroom."

out of every girl signing letters across the country today its not likely that even 1 will make a dime for anything attached to their name and soccer

JSerra had 8 girls sign some big time college soccer deals. Two UCLA, Two Stanford, Utah to name a few. Impressive haul and will never happen again because of the DA :(

They’d be playing DA if their hs coach wasn’t also the ECNL coach.
I understand the coaches, just making a prediction....lol! Hard to find players like that all on one team. My dd had to scrimmage them sometimes when she was 11 and 12. Tough group of girls :)
