Quality of Play standings for U13 and U14? HAHA what is this crap MLS is trying to push

What in the world is MLS doing? U13 and U14 wins and losses don't matter, so we took away standings...

Nevermind, now we'll have standings but it will be some computer AI created standings that would be the same if we just tracked wins, losses and goal difference.

And what are these new QoP standings even used for?

Seems like a pure money grab from MLS and Taka to get parents to sign up for yet another video service.

Yes and no. They are trying to take away the emphasis away from winning so the coaches can instead try and focus on development. They don’t want the coaches using short cuts to get some meaningless win. There’s also a reason this cuts off at u14. Because by then the academies become nearly fully staffed. So then the function of mlsn teams reverts from being a place to scout players to cannon fodder for the academy teams. But yes money too.

But if these “meaningless wins” were so detrimental to youth development, why not a change at u8-u14 instead of only for u13-u14. Kids go from wins, losses, state cups, etc to a random 2 years of “quality of play”. And why is no other country doing it, or any other league in the us? Just Seems random with no real data to back it up.

Just don’t see that it’s anything more than a money grab to get clubs and parents to buy the taka software. Wouldn’t be surprised to see mls as an investor in it too. Also is an easy way out for mls to not have to focus on doing any events for u13-u14 - again, a money play.

They will use the AI to find players. They can cross the results of seasons analytics with what coaches and scouts tell them.

Smart.

How may time are they told to take kids only to find out they dont do the basics.... Alot more than they want.

See bbb s response above. Also mls doesn’t control the lowers which is why not the Youngers. The euro academies and some us academies are already do this. The rest of the world plays tiered rec

I think you are missing the point. I'm not talking about scouting players - using AI is fine as another tool.

What we are seeing here is MLS basically trying to turn kids into caring about their Taka positive or negative plays, instead of letting them just naturally care about competing and, dare I say it, competing to WIN.

And the Euro academies compete in a promotion and relegation structure - even at age groups as young as 7 and 8 in Spain ( a country that is pretty good at producing world class players). It's proven to have the cream rise to the top. Why does MLS seem to think it can reinvent what the rest of the world has proven to work in terms of player development.

Spains academies introduce pro rel at 13 for the academies. The rec leagues are younger. Even then until about 16 because of local rules and because the academies aggregate talent (there’s no real competition with the rec teams which aren’t good enough to play at those levels, only other academies) there effectively isn’t real pro rel except among the academies. The system would be equivalent in the us only is mls academies faced other academies including usl

Reason why not to focus on winning is because it distorts development. It lets coaches take tactics and recruitments (such as taking kids close to the age line) in order to win. You can have your soccer developmental, competitive or accessible. Pick 2.

Reason why is the pro teams are not interested in winning trophy but developing players they can later sell for $$$$ transfer fees.
