Last Season For The GA... just a high cost 3rd tier league now

There is no way the GA last longer than another year. With the departure of FC Bay Area Surf and Placer both going ECNL it leaves the GA as just an expensive 3rd tier league thats sits competitively below even Norcal Premier NPL. Think about it, all the GA clubs also play Norcal NPL and most aren't even top NPL teams. Other big clubs across the country will make the exit soon as well. Yeah lets just call it a day for the GA.

At least those top players have time to find ECNL programs for next season. Let the tryout season begin!

Now who will win the battle on the boys side ECNL or MLS Next? to be continued.

Maybe, maybe not + too soon to tell.

Remember there was a day when DA came onto the scene + everyone thought ECNL was an afterthought.

Placer is not a GA team--former DA. GA NorCal has West Coast, SFEA, Lamorinda, and Clovis--all clubs that would be competitive within ECNL--and are/were NorCal Champions League clubs (the remainder of a lot of the GA sides are either NorCal champions league or NPL 1 teams)--as was the case last fall when the ECNL teams played in NorCal--over most brackets. Other GA divisions throughout the country appear to have 2 to three strong clubs as well--across most age divisions. Too bad ENCL did not expand enough when the DA collapsed and institute relegation--that would have stopped the need for the GA to have formed. GA does not sit below Norcal Premier NPL...and I would venture that is true for any other state or regional leagues. We are currently seeing a crummy ENRL league...and ladies that are coming out of a Covid screwed year where teams loaded up on games last season--worrying if they would even get to compete with a changing Covid environment--teams that are now tired and worn-out (no real break--50+ games) combined with injuries... The idea is how best to develop players and how best to have the greatest opportunity for play at the highest level, if desired, without having to spend money...on crazy travel--and preventing players from missing school--While not causing the player pool to dilute the level of play. This was the big problem when the DA came onto the scene, which really screwed up matters--when US Soccer should have worked with ECNL to really build out the league and US soccer development.

At least for norcal, NPL was the real deal, and both GA and ECNL are just messing it up.

We have a good pro-rel system where the top 8 teams play each other. The few teams who are above that can try playing up a year. Solid, competitive games in state.

Neither GA nor ECNL offers that.

With the quality of teams within CAL--but for the arguable opportunity to play a solid team from out of state, there is enough quality competition within CA alone top to bottom to allow for real quality matches and development--without the need to crazy travel. With that said-going North to Davis or south to SD/LA is still travel.

My dd has been in club soccer going on 6 years now. I can't believe that amount of change over these 6 years. Hard to predict anything in this environment. For all we know there will be an NWSL Next league formed next year.

Can't agree more with what @dad4 said above...NPL in NorCal has it right. Wish we could blow up ECNL and GA in NorCal. Of course it won't happen as parents love to throw $$$ as that #$@&.

The last 6 years has been interesting to say the least. My dd won a USYS Natty in 2017 at the U13 age. After U13, the leagues try to be the top national league and no real true champion is crowned. The United States Youth Soccer Championship is the oldest soccer trophy in our country. I have a suggestion after watching youth soccer the last 12 years. Make the USYS Trophy the Champions League Trophy or the Grand Daddy of them all US Soccer Trophy. Take the top four teams from GA, USYS Elite 64, ECNL and NPL type league and let them hash it all out on the field, not some back room. College coaches and Pro coaches will find their student athlete or Pro Players in this bunch of players as well as the leagues they represent.
