Dear soccer families,
The time has come to say ciao!
From March 2012, 8.5 years ago, I’ve benefited from this community. At the beginning, I knew nothing about SoCal club soccer scene other than my small circle in south OC. Through many kind bloggers and forum contributors, I’d learned more than ever expected – thank you all, especially to those no longer posts here because, like me, kids have aged out.
For the past several years, I’ve tried to give back to the community to those who wore the same shoes I wore in the beginning. I hope I’ve helped.
Unfortunately, our older son’s fall college season is lost, and he is a graduating senior. While he can comeback, he’s expressed his desire to move onto the working world. He will end his college soccer career as a 3-year scholar athlete and finish BA Econ degree in 3.5 years.
Our younger son enters his college career remotely from our house. He’s soccer career was cut short this spring, when National Cup was cancelled. He never had any desire to play in college like his brother. Perhaps college club or intermural when kids are allowed back to campus, I hope…
So, you can see after 15 years, two kids, U6 to college soccer, our journey living vicariously has ended. Both my wife and I look at each other on the weekends and say something like “what do you want to do next” – we never had that for the last 15 years.
Last, I really want to thank Dom for creating this community. It’s really valuable for many of us from who enter club soccer madness with no background, to all the way through getting recruited by college. (also, hours of entertainment reading rants from soccercrazy, vin and alike). I know your kid has aged out several years ago, but you’ve kept this going for everyone.
Want to wish all of you best of luck and enjoy the ride (and don’t lose your perspectives)…. It all goes very quickly.
Cheers!
