Is the coach invested in your child?

How many of you believe that your child’s coach(es) are invested in the growth and development of your child? Is your child a starter or a bench player and does this factor into their investment? If invested, what are your indicators? If not, will this cause you to leave?

Yes, we had a talk with our coach a few years ago regarding her ADD and dyslexia. He has been patient and given her plenty of playing time. She is a much better player now and no longer wants to quit soccer. The previous coach never took our request into consideration and our daughter didn’t enjoy soccer.

Honestly looking back the last two clubs my son was in may have ended rocky because of how the teams were form but one thing that I did like was how the coach brought out the best in my child. But now at this new club (not going to name any names) it’s not the same I see he uncomfortable practicing/ scrimmaging. Coaches instead of teaching just want them to memorize too much pressure to kids(9yr olds) from a distance I can tell certain kids are doing it wrong including mine but drill or player not stopped to be taught the proper way. I want to give the club a chance since all this covid situation but again since November 2019 I really haven’t seen any development growth in my son.

Over the years we have been fortunate to mostly have good coaches for our two players. Coming up, my son was fortunate enough to have a few coaches that really believed in his potential and allowed him to work his way up to a level where he could be on a team with his friends. This is my son's last year and the coach he has had for the last 3 or 4 seasons has been the best coach either of my players has had, although my daughter had a few very good coaches during her youth career. This coach brings out the best in every player individually and the team. Practices are intense but fun and the players respect the coach. The coach explains the game well during practice AND during games.

Absolutely. Best experience ever and a coach that plays with the backpass and allows my keeper to take goalkicks. Had to play down to find it though.

And what if a coach has an invested interest harming your players opportunities ?? I would rather no investment rather than an intent I trying to wreck your DD’s future

It would be great to hear from folks with older kids who have a better perspective on coaches. I am sure there will be examples of good/bad coaching traits. Thanks all!
