College Sports Will Die As We Know it

Forget about the grade year thing...this is so much bigger. College sports are going to die as we know it and probably for the best. Cal traveling to the opposite coast to play games is one of the stupidest things I have have ever heard of.

There will be much fewer D1 opportunities, but those who can make it will get paid. This will have a ripple effect into club soccer and all youth sports.

Sad that it will kill college D1 sports...that was part of our unique American culture...but it was always BS that schools and coaches were making huge $$$ on the backs of players getting an education in basket weaving. So stupid...bunch of greedy A-holes.

Anyway, next few years are going to be interesting to say the least.

Cheating, Greed, Lying and PAY FOR PLAY has done a number on many of us, unless you're the one receiving the benefits of pay for play.

When you say "those who can make it will get paid", are you suggesting everyone or just the standouts?

NCAA is limiting the number of players teams can roster to lower the overall amount they'll need to pay players because of the recent House settlement.

Specifically... "Division I athletes should receive compensation for their name, image, and likeness (NIL) and a share of future broadcast revenues."

NIL is easy to address. Providing a share of future broadcast revenues is hard to address. Less players means the chump change players get will seem bigger. Also in general less players lowers the chances of a Players Union being formed. Although I don't see how this can be avoided now that players have agents representing them for NIL negotiations. It's just a matter of time.

If you read through that X thread they are saying all D1 athletes will get paid and have a full ride. Assuming they are correct (and they almost always are), this will be great for those who get a D1 offer. That said, again - assuming this is all true, many colleges will cut programs as most won't be able to afford all this.

So true. The GDA promised fully funded programs and free soccer and travel for all the top teams. It's why we left the great Tad Bobak and playing up with his 03s. Once the GDA started, the fully funded mandate was switched to only a select few at each club. No way these clubs could afford fully funded age groups with free travel. Some players even got a per diem on the road. Keep in mind when this was rolled out, the clubs only had three teams in the GDA, so anything was possible. I found out a later a dad paid for my dd full ride. It made feel sick because I thought US Soccer Federation and the Club was paying. Dumb dad I was but lie to me once, shame on you. Lie to me again, shame on you losers. Lie to me a third time, I will go voice my complaints on the Socal Soccer Forum (Soccer's Yelp:cool:) and ask questions.

Seems like JUCO ball would benefit, too. If I'm a D1 coach, I'd rather pay experienced, physically-developed kids for 2 years.

What'll the Ivys do? Go D3?

Makes sense to me. The way the portal is going, the exception seems to be someone on a roster for 4-years.
I know someone who gave me some smack talk back in the day about club hopping for medals🤣 Now his dd is entering her third college in three years. I don't blame her because the first two coaches were all lip service to get her to sign and then did the ole flip flop on her. She is super happy going into camp this year.
