Back to normal?

Walking the dog by neighborhood park. Boys soccer team having practice. Boys little league baseball team practicing. Boys football team training. Some kids playing pick up game. People walking dogs. Kids playing on a playground. Some people and kids wear masks. Some don't. Seems like it's getting back to normal. I was happy.

Approximately, where are you?

I see the soccer boards are filled with tryout notices again....

meanwhile AYSO has descended into a screaming argument between regions which have cancelled outright and regions which still are holding onto hope for an October start

I hear you Grace, it’s a crap situation. There is no real clear direction and so it was inevitable we would end up in a free-for-all situation with open tryouts and the like, particularly because things are different from region to region. I’m not putting blame on the clubs; everyone is doing what they feel is best for them and I respect that.

I am interested to see if the leagues provide another update in the coming week or two if it becomes clear (and it seems likely in the current situation) that we will not be starting the fall league season in October as planned.

I expect more AYSO regions will cancel the fall season in the coming weeks and I know this might not be an optimistic or popular outlook but I do think we’re kidding ourselves pretending games are just around the corner.

If that was for me, cheers for the tip.

The current US Soccer licensing system can be helpful for some coaches; particularly those without an extensive soccer knowledge or background, an understanding of youth psychology and an ability to connect with young people. Fortunately, I’m covered on those fronts and so the additional licensing would mostly be a checkbox exercise for me. I’m in no rush to do that as I don’t play the pretend ‘look at my coaching resume and qualifications’ game. I play the real game.;)

I went for a bike ride with the family last night and we saw 4 different pickup games in a couple of parks. I told my wife, " the only ones following the covid rules are club soccer organizations." All these pickup games were mostly 20 to 30 year old men.

It wasn't a knock on you Paul, just a commentary on Cal South's latest news.

Cal South, ahead of the curve as always.
Fair enough, cheers. Is it really available online?

I thought the whole idea of the new licensing format was so that coaches could actually be assessed during practice sessions. Clearly that’s gone out of the window now.

The grassroots courses will be 100% virtual, but not the other licenses, which will be blended. It may be a bit less out on the field than before, but they were always a blend of classroom and field

New normal maybe but not like before. The carefree feel wasn't there when I was out last night with the dog-o. The coaches had masks, kids spaced out when I came across few old Friends or former coaches, we talked but keep our distance with the masks on.

I don't think the dog had any different experience vs normal but I did but it was at least nice to see the big fields being used at least and the AYSO black jesery or united kids doing the camp or summer training thing at least not sure the details but there was 6-7 groups of boys & girls out on the fields along with the assortment of bike riders, walker's, dogs, etc. This is LA county so maybe not adelic like some of those places in OC. There was a field monitor around in one of those city cars watching things so no adults playing pickup like you might have seen otherwise.
