Arsenal/Royals

rivalry weekend for local ecnl teams as arsenal and royals faced off yesterday.
royals won 4 out of the 6 matches, with 2 being draws.
2012 royals 3 arsenal 0
2011 royals 1 arsenal 0
2010 royals 2 arsenal 0
2009 royals 1 arsenal 1
2008 royals 0 arsenal 0
2007/06 royals 1 arsenal 0

Pretty Typical. Arsenal is the weakest of all the ECNL Girls programs. The Arsenal 09s did well but think that team got broken up. At the later years the Arsenal team is typically former bench players from Royals and Rising mixed in with some starters recruited from from ECRL and DPL teams.

So given the results for the later years, 2 draws and a narrow win, does that mean that the former bench players from Royals/Rising & starters from ECRL/DPL are now on a par with them? Is that from better coaching, poor selection (from Royals/Rising - letting them get away) or some other reason?

@tjinaz I'm being a little facetious ... I do agree with your summary of the squad makeups, but do have a chuckle when they go head to head as the results are rarely as expected. That's what local derbies are about I suppose.

Injuries, lots of injuries on royals side. 06/07 out 3 starters, 08 out four (3 starters), 09 out 3 starters .

Theoretically, Royals should still be way stronger, assuming Arsenal are made up of former bench players and second teamers, as Royals are still fielding the majority of their starters, right? I also hate that injuries only happen to the better teams, too.

it really does mean more to the Arsenal players when they play. They are showing former teammates and coaches they made a mistake by not playing them. Other thing is I believe Royals only roster 18 where Arsenal I have seen upwards of 22 on ECNL rosters.

Yeah, and if they can compete, then they are probably right.
