2 person Referee Crews this Saturday

I talked to several referees and coaches this weekend as I was hearing similar stories. Every single one I talked to said they only had 1 or two referees on Saturday. This went down as far as single persons on Rec games to having only 2 people on many U17-19 SCDSL and SDDA games. This happened in San Diego.

Is this the new Safe Sport requirements? Is it just 1st weekends are always bad? Or is it finally the referee shortage being felt? Maybe all 3?

Right now I only have limited anecdotal data and am curious what everyone else's experience was? I don't remember 1st weekends being this bad before.
 
I had full crews on Saturday and Sunday, and all the other fields had full crews. That was once they arrived. Numerous referees arriving late. Hopefully they were just coming from another venue. I did see numerous young youth referees. Good to see the youth referees getting some work to build their confidence and experience.
 
I may have commented too quickly. As of now, I have a solo center on a G18 game, two HS aged games with a very young inexperienced AR, and am the only AR on a G18 game. I sure hope my assigner finds some referees. Last night the assigner sent out a fairly long list of openings for this weekend.

When, where. I know a 16 yo, fit referee that is free on Sunday. PM me.

This is for Saturday and the assigner got me partners. Still Saturday games with open spots. Your son should be getting the emails from the SDCSRA. If you need email contacts, PM me.

He has a game on Saturday and then band practice. He is getting the emails, but just in case.
