It actually makes sense for the military to investigate the usage of electric vehicles, e.g. if they only used them for non fighting vehicles domestically, they could probably save millions in gas costs. Likewise with the evolution of hybrid tech, that may have legs as a fallback solution for fighting vehicles in a worse case scenario. Either way, I doubt the DoD is constrained by petty things such as cost when it comes to range for example, so they could be looking at electric vehicles with a range of 1000 miles which is achievable in concept.

I doubt its happening soon for fighting vehicles, but the DoD would be remiss in their job by acting like Ostriches when planning for the next 10-30 years by ignoring the potential.
