DA QUICK QUESTION

4. I would think that DA clubs should already have a list or at least be working hard on creating that list.

Generik--that spreadsheet of yours may be more valuable than you thought.

Still pretty bummed out that Goats FC were overlooked by US Soccer for DA!

Guess that means we'll all be slumming it next season with all the "sloppy-seconds" clubs left out there!!

Good luck to all as we try to navigate another year of unprecedented change.

We are going for the grading and assessment from USSF licensed coaches.

Here is the excerpt from the DA tryout announcement: Reserve Team trials will consist of exercises designed to show us your range of ability, skills, speed, and athleticism. All participants are graded and assessed by USSF licensed coaches.

After the tryout, I will give my notes to Generik to update the famous spreadsheet.

Can someone post a link to the spreadsheet? I have never seen the famous artifact.

The Spread sheet holds clues but it only comfirms the Book(s). Only a few know who are in the Original Book(s).

4. Does the 03 class confirm the Book(s)? Please share if it confirms the Book(s)

All of this is hypothetical.

3) per parent of Surf DD who is no longer there, Surf gave 6-7 ECNL cards to 04s to tie them up until May so they can't look at other DA clubs and will be forced to play 04 ECNL. Not cool.

Were these cards forced upon them? And really, what other DA clubs are most Surf girls looking at? Carlsbad? Maybe Blues? Teams they play all the time anyway and who will know who these girls are? I don't see the drama.

I would say that Surf gave them ECNL cards because the player warranted it or parents made it part of the deal to switch clubs (Fact). How can you accuse a club of doing it "so they couldn't look at other DA clubs" when the DA didn't exist yet?

Come on Kicker......Surf absolutely knew about the GDA by the time those 04 players were offered spots on the Surf 04 Academy team along with the offer to be rostered on the 03 ECNL team. Now, I am not saying that Surf did what they did to stifle those players from looking at DA clubs outside of Surf, but Surf knew what was coming down the road in terms of ECNL and GDA.

But let's be honest here, Surf is no different than some other South OC ECNL programs. There are multiple 04 players that are rostered to 03 ECNL teams that are not vital to the 03 ECNL teams. Each of these clubs have their reasons for including those 04's with the 03 ECNL team. Politics are alive and well in club soccer too.

I think this has always been the case- and I don't begrudge it either way.
What I openly wonder though is with the dilution of DA if that stronghold will now lessen across the board and a pendulum swing will occur to families and players?

I can't believe that Surf (or any other club) would do something unethical like this.;)

At the end of the day, parents have to research what they are signing and committing to. If they fail to do so, they may regret their actions down the road, and it is not the clubs fault, it falls all on the shoulders of the parents. Surf is a top notch club with amazing players. There are some stud 04 Surf players out there. If they are good enough to play 03 ecnl, kudos to them.

Booey....some of those agreements (cause that's what it was) weren't driven by the club as much as used as incentive (fact) and were made in November of last year. At that point ECNL and US Soccer were still in talks about working together.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since Pateadores is a non ECNL club, ECNL players can in fact attend. Correct?

That is how I understand it as well...it may not go over well with your current team/coach/club - but you should be safe from any ECNL police actions!!!

Good luck...KE at Pats is great!

Really, it locks the girls into May, it's not the DA, it's stopping them from other ECNL clubs

Not DA, to lock them into May, no ECNL club movement

This comment makes absolutely no sense. Having an ECNL card wouldn't prevent a player from moving to a DA program or trying out. The club could prevent a transfer to another ECNL team during the season just like a club could prevent a move from SCDSL to SCDSL during the freeze dates. The reality is, most clubs do not this (Arsenal just let one of its players transfer to Surf ECNL). Ask the player if Surf approved the mid-season transfer and you have your answer on locking up players.

Girls DA is new for 2017 -18 and there are no existing players so until the season starts in Sept 17 ' & players register in August there is nothing preventing anybody for anything. When you register, fill out the waivers you are agreeing to follow the rules and provisions

ECNL tryout window is in May 2017 for existing players. Those players agreed to the ENCL provisions and rules when they signed-up.

Nothing prevents a player for attending training or trying out for another club. However, doing so during the season without following protocol can lead to consequences and even when you do there can be repercussions.

Like I mentioned previously in this thread, sneaking around or just trying out for another club can be risky especially if you don't discuss or get permission before the fact. This is one case where asking for "permission is better than asking for forgiveness" most of the time. Small world and word get back to clubs/coaches quickly when players are training and trying out for other clubs.

Every year since I can remember I have heard or seen starting players being dismissed/cut or their roles reduced once its know they are looking at other clubs. Last year during one of our DA tryouts, a couple of kids where dismissed from their current club teams before they even finished the tryout. Missing CRL or other team games, functions for a tryout somewhere else resulted in immediate calls to the parents for example.

Surf has an open door policy when it comes to girls leaving. We have had a couple of girls leave mid season to join other ECNL teams with no repercussions. It just needs to be approved by both DOCs and the league. So, the idea that these girls were put on the ECNL team just to lock them up, makes no sense.
