The WPSL is an independent women’s soccer league with more than 100 highly competitive amateur teams nationwide. It is the longest standing women’s league in the world and is currently the second tier under the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

As the newest member of the league, LAGSD will compete in the PAC South conference which includes the San Diego Sea Lions, Phoenix del Sol, Strikers FC, FC Tucson and FC Pacific.

“The addition of the WPSL helps complete the player pathway for our girls program,” said Carl Higham, LAGSD Girls Director of Coaching. “It’s the final piece that we have been looking to add for the past few years.”

The LAGSD women will play all home games at Army and Navy Academy in the heart of Carlsbad Village with the season running May- July.

“The introduction of the WPSL to Carlsbad is fantastic for both our program and for girls soccer in the local community,” said Michael Duggan, LAGSD Director of Coaching. “The atmosphere at Army and Navy will be brilliant, and the level of soccer does not get much better with top DI college players from around the country competing against like minded players.”

The team will be coached by Greg LaPorte, former Associate Head Coach at the University of San Diego, and the roster will be comprised primarily of players who are recently graduated or currently playing at the collegiate level.

“From a collegiate perspective, we are excited to be able to provide our players with a program that ensures they will have a place to train and play quality games during the summer before they go off to college,” said LAGSD Girls College Liaison, Courtney Drummond.

The LAGSD women’s team will be sponsored by Processing Point who has partnered with the club to help offset travel costs, facility use fees, league fees and training costs.

“We are excited to be involved in promoting high level women’s soccer in North San Diego County, and look forward to seeing the enthusiasm in our community and watching the sport grow through this exceptional program,” said Chad Buckmaster, Processing Point CEO. “We know LAGSD will bring an outstanding product to the field and be a mentor to our players making a positive impact in the community.”
