Games of the week 18-19....

Interesting was that info posted somewhere or just passed along in a monthly meeting or something by coaches?

Does the same go for top 2 Europa to Champ?

Some teams are bound to get moved down also to make room normally unless you end up with more teams than games.

My kid is on one of the teams and we were told Top two teams get a slot next season. I would assume (but you honestly never know with SCDSL) that the same goes for the top two Europa teams going into Champions bracket.

I have not heard anything at all about promo/releg. But I will agree with ReVolted, the competition was stiff and jumping a whole league is probably not realistic.

Thanks for the info. With Discovery being a new division, I wasn't really sure how it worked. I also figured if a Flight 1 Europa team somehow beats a few of the top 4 Champions teams during the upcoming playoffs, then they should be considered a possibility to jump to Discovery as long as they can have a strong showing in National Cup or some other cup.

Moving up 2 flights is rare but if you look at the 2017 standings, Pats SCV finished in 1st place of Flight 1 Europa, this year they just finished in first place of Flight 1 Champions. This team might be the exception but they have been dominating in their flight jumps in back to back years. They could have easily been in the Discovery league this year and remained competitive.

You also look at San Diego Surf Academy B03 and they have 27 kids on two teams and they finished 11th in Discovery and 4th in Champions league. Should they be allowed to have 2 teams in Discovery???

There should be relegation from the bottom 4 discovery teams I would think to allow the better champions teams to move up.

Sounds reasonable but if you look at this years discovery there was what already (3) Strikers and (2) Pat's teams so adding another one of either would make almost half the division those (2) clubs which seems off to me.

Not to saying there all not deserving but there has to some better reconciling, when same clubs play each other when there other teams they don't play you have to wonder if the scheduler actually thought that trough or was just relying on the software blindly.

How many for CSL Premier get promoted/relegated? Seems like 3 bottom are relegated and GN/GS champion are promoted and best 2nd place Gold?

Top 10 Premier are really solid sides.

So much changes at this age with boys becoming men.

Think CSL v. SCDSL at National Cup will be illuminating.

Varies each year but yeah bottom 2 for sure and can be 1-2 more that either get demoted or break up.

CSL premier is very competive like you mentioned and some would say a more physical Style of play with larger rosters. With about 6 teams loosing points from accumulated points on cards the stats seem to back that up but hard to say for sure since DSL doesn't track or record fouls unless red.

There are three other usclub leagues this spring (npl west, scnpl, upsl) so national cup is going to be skipped by some & Ussda is on again next year for the 03's so there will be reshuffle again. Two of the usclub leagues are going year-round starting this fall.

DSL- Probably the most anticipated game was Strikers vs Strikers and ended in tie. That only serves to make the final week of league more of a toss up. SDSC vs Arsenal was good game. Not many penalties and both teams played fast soccer. SDSC has been playing very good soccer this last half of the season. I still think that Striker South Coast will take first place. Second is still up for grabs. If I had to bet I would go with PATS. They play the bottom of the league, an upset is unlikely. No upset for Strikers South Coast or Strikers Irvine. Best games will be SDSC vs Laguna and Galaxy vs Arsenal. Laguna has under performed from last year and Arsenal has played the easier side of the league. So Predict Strikers South Coast first and Pats LA second.

I would have liked to see a longer season where all the teams got to play each other. We would have gotten a true ranking of these teams. I look forward to national cup and getting to play the CSL premier teams. Overall, I was pleased with the level of competition in the DSL. It will be interesting who gets in next year and if the competition gets better.

CSL- Oxnard vs Boca.
This weeks game was a disaster for Albion.
Just an FYI re: Oxnard vs. Brea in the League Cup game coming up this weekend...
Oxnard obviously had a far superior record during the season and Brea was in the middle of the pack. When these 2 teams met during the season Brea had the lead the ENTIRE game and Oxnard scored in the waning minutes of the game on a corner kick to tie the game 1 to 1. I'm not saying Brea is going to beat Oxnard but if they somehow do pull off the "upset" it's not too far off base considering the outcome of their League game. Brea did have one of the best Goals Against Avgs during the season but also one of the worst offenses (Goals For Avg). Brea also managed to beat Santa Barbara in League... go figure. Kind of a Jekyll and Hyde team.

My understanding is that many of the top discovery teams will not play in National Cup. Some are DA and getting ready for the move to the 03/04 age group and others are focusing on showcases like dallas Cup etc. my prediction is that discovery while being the most competitive league this year will lose close to 1/2 the teams next year as they go back to DA, move to ECNL etc as they are at the prime recruiting age and those 2 groups are by far the most scouted.

Games of the week for this weekend include: SCDSL Fligh 1 playoffs:
4 Flight 1 Europa vs Top 4 Champion teams.
Pats SCV (1) vs Soltilo (2): Pats were up for most of the game but 2 late games from Soltilo completed the comeback. Big upset to see a 1st place champion lose to 2nd place Europa team.
LA Breakers (3) vs Beach FC South Bay (2): This was a tale of two halves, Beach was the better team and winning by half time. LA Breakers made it a comeback and played really well in the 2nd half.
SD Surf Academy (3) SGV Surf (0): The SGV Surf is a team that doesn't typically lose by this much so it shows that the SD Surf team had a great game plan and better players.
Pats PYL (6) vs Strikers South Bay (2): Pats scored early and were up 4-0 at the half. Strikers came out swinging and scored 2 goals early in the 2nd half. Pats then sealed the game with 2 beautiful goals in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Seminfinals:
Soltilo vs SD Surf Academy & Pats PYL vs LA Breakers.

- Kudos to 3 of the 4 flight 1 Europa teams for stepping up and playing well against the top 4 Champions teams.
- Great job for both Soltilo and Pats PYL for finishing 1st and send last year at the flight 2 level and then this year 2nd (Soltilo) and 1st (Pats) at the Flight 1 Europa level. Soltilo finished 2nd at the recent State Cup Presidents cup level and Pats is just wrapping up their 3rd year of club soccer.

These results show that there are new teams that can really play at the top Champions level and maybe even low end Discovery level.

Congratulations to coach Kevin Eagleston and strikers south coast B03 to win the first ever Discovery League Championship. And Sunday was the last and final games in the Discovery League for boys vs Real So Cal B03 ADT. Final score strikers south coast 3-0 real so cal. And That was the only 03 discovery game played on Sunday.

Also last night, a night to remember a full house turned out including Todd Saldana LAFC. College Coaches and Scouts to see the 2003 Discovery Champion Strikers and LAFC Academy mixture of 04 and 03 going head to head into a friendly match, the game was exciting from start to finish and fun to watch. Congrats again to Coach Kevin Eagleston and LAFC Academy coaching staff to make this beautiful friendly match happen.

Another come out of nowhere couple of wins by TFA to get to the Finals for CSL League Cup!!! They knocked off 1st place Boca Jr. and then took out 2nd place Oxnard to advance to the Finals. This team placed 7th during the Season League games yet they are able to elevate during games that matter and take out very stiff competition! BIG Kudos to Coach Capparelli for getting his boys in the right mindset to up their games to keep winning those big games when they matter. Impressive!!!

Always good to see teams improve as the season(s) closes out,. TFA for one normally gets better as they get in more games.

Winning league is more a matter of consistency and putting together good training sessions and getting thing done in key games.

So far there are two league champions from the top tier:
BOCA JRS LA B03 PREMIER from CSL
Strikers FC - South Coast from DSL

The CSL league cup is a much higher level comp compared to the DSL playoffs so one of the games of the weeks has to be the championship match:

#7 TOTAL FUTBOL ACADEMY vs #5 COLTON AMERICA SC ACADEMY on 11/17

After this weekend some players are off to the Thanksgiving tournments and on to there HS teams. Where will we see some of these teams next?

Surf College Showcase and Vegas Players Showcase for some. CRL and National Cup for many.

Then the rebuilding season in May for the teams that didn't meet expectations, the extended season for teams representing at Western Regionals and Nationals and the reloading season for teams/players that want to create a new opportunity.

Likely to be many of the same faces - Oxnards, TFAs, Boca Jrs. Strikers, etc. with some or a bunch of new faces.

Some emerging teams for sure in both leagues.

Also many 2003s jump (back) into DA for next season either as U17s or U16/17s.

DA back to somewhat regular set of games next couple of weeks with Pats picking up a 2-1 win vs Albion to move back in the hunt for the playoffs

Strikers FC U-16/17 vs San Diego Surf U-16/17

FC Golden State U-16/17 vs Sacramento Republic FC U-16/17

DA winter Showcase @ Premier Sports in FL Match-ups are set for the 11/30-12/3 comp
SW teams will be playing: Houston Dynamo U-16/17, New England Revolution U-16/17, New York Red Bulls U-16/17, New York City FC U-16/17, Montreal Impact FC U-16/17 and others from the east mostly

Good learning experience for the boys, hadn't heard or seen anything about the strikers team before but came away impressed. Can't recall any other team that out played us like this even tough they hardly subbed until last 10mins but you could tell they where tiring out somewhat Their keeper & front line where excellent all game long and they capitalized when the opportunities came up.

Hey @mahrez that was a sizable crowd for a scrimmage game, all your games like that?

The first half team appeared to be different vs 2nd half team although I only watched the first 10 mins of 2nd half heard it was more of the same. Did the starters play first or 2nd half? Just curious with that many players how it works out?

Recognized a few of the B03's playing in this one for lafc: #29 defender for Strikers Irvine B03 DA & #10 attacker for Boca Jr LA Premier. Those seem like surprise choices given they both play for other clubs, are early calendar year and not eligible to play down so why have them in a scrimmage game? Not that it mattered in the parts of the game I watched but what's the rational in playing guests at a scrimmage this time of year?

SCDSL playoffs update.
Pats PYL 3- La Breakers 1. Much closer game than the score shows. It was 0-0 at the half and then Breakers started having defensive mistakes and Pats turned it up a notch.

SD Surf 3 - Soltilo 2. Surf was up 2-0 and the Soltilo tried making a game out of this. SD Surf was the better for most of the game.

championship game tomorrow Pats PYL vs SD Surf Academy.

Discovery is no joke, 4 teams is still in the hunt this morning for the finals second place and the $1500 prizes money. Can Pats hold on for the win against Pateadores - Irvine 2003 Reserve Academy. The 3 other teams tied for third place is still in the running. Strikers FC Irvine Chingirian, Arsenal FC 2003 USSDA. And San Diego Soccer ClubB2003 Academy.

Big upset in Discovery for 2nd place. Pateadores Irvine 2003 Reserve Academy 1-0 over Pateadores LA. San Diego Soccer Club B2003 Academy Navy move in to 2nd place just for a brief moments with a 2-1 victory over Laguna United FC B03. With two more games still to play with Arsenal and Strikers Chingirian still in the running, if both team to win today the 2nd place will decide by Goal difference. Discovery League is nice. ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽
