ECNL

BRONZE
What is ECNL for boys and which clubs will participate?

New for 17-18 in this age group for the Southwest. 5 teams from AZ/NV plus
  • Del Mar Carmel Valley Sharks (CA)
  • Legends (CA)
  • Slammers (CA)
  • West Coast FC (CA)
Potentially lots of travel w/ a 12-18 game season with competition that is equivalent to flight 1 or below. 2 other potential SC clubs but w/ 2002s as their youngest age groups.

I could use a little clarification please. We will now have CRL, NPL and ECNL this upcoming year. Are these all secondary leagues to compliment either Coast or SCDSL? And safe to say if a team is not participating in any of them, going to be difficult to get some quality games outside of Coast or SCDSL?

NPL is a spring league run by USclub

ECNL is a fall league instead of Coast or SCDSL run by Usclub.

CRL is a Cal south league for club teams in their sanctioned leagues like coast or SCDSL. These have post season usys tournaments: nt cup, far west, etc.

Usclub has their own post season , tournaments with a lot fewer teams: one regional and one national. These are different vs the Cal south ones ( any team can play if they pay and played in one if thier fall leagues). Usclub playoffs are only for teams that qualify; top ones in each conference.

No coast premiere is likely to have better comp vs these other leagues. Gold and flight 1 might be a slight bit more diluded. Ussda will have better comp vs these leagues also.

Do these teams play ECNL instead of SCDSL or CSL league play. http://www.boysecnl.com/southwest-conference/ Seems like an awful lot of travel.

Yes. Teams that will be ECNL will play ECNL only. No SCDSL/CRL/National Cup. They told us that it would be one trip to AZ and potentially one trip to NV. SoCal teams will be in the ECNL showcase come April '18 (San Diego).

With Mahrez saying Beach and LAPFC are out at the 2003 age group, the competition is minimal and is dropping to SAD levels. However, someone in another thread said AC Milan Red is going to be the Legends A team, perhaps this will be their ECNL team then? Also, like girls, the ECNL rosters can be large, 26 or something - meaning there could be movement between an ECNL team and a "reserve" team playing in SCDSL/Coast.

The "sell" has been college like recruitment and national collegiate recruitment exposure. This will be great for areas without DA teams or areas covered mainly by US Club Soccer. But for us here SoCal - not so much.
