Something to think about. Because DA 03 is a single age band this year, unlike previous years, there will be twice as many girls trying out for the 02/03 dual age band next year. That will be all the DA 03 girls from Surf, Blues, West Coast, Slammers, Beach, Pateadores, and Legends. Plus the usual amount of girls from the older age band that have already been funneled down as they say. That will be crazy.

USSDA position hasn't really changed about the composite/combined age groups....

U-14 (2005), U-15 (2004), U-16/17 (2002/2003), & U-18/19 (2000/2001) 4 total for the girls

However the girls app process did have a nugget:

"The Girls’ Development Academy is currently in the first year of the program. Academy Leadership is in the stage of observation and analysis about any potential age groups for expansion, e.g. U-13, U-16 single age, etc. If the Academy were to expand, all clubs that complete this application would also be considered for additional potential age groups and would receive communication prior to confirming participation. Note: Existing Academy Clubs do not need to apply for any potential expansion, they will automatically be considered for any additional age group expansion"

For the girls its only been 1 year but for the boys seems like a lot of investment clubs, players, and coaches made for 2-3 years w/ the 2003 group that maybe not be played forward.

Lets say 25% of the those players make the combined 18-19' u16/17 team(s) that's 75% attrition which is a tough bill to swallow for the 100+ U15 clubs around the country.

Some teams/clubs will handle this different...most will be heavily with the older age year in the split if history is any indication...

First everyone complains that the talent is being diluted with too many DA teams. Now that the talent will start to be funneled into fewer teams everyone is complaining? Too bad you can't have your cake and eat it too.

It's still diluted, especially in a year that is paramount for both '02 and especially '03, in terms of college recruitment. IF the numbers people are throwing around are true and DA clubs continue as history has shown and pick up majority olders for 02/03 in 2018, then that takes a very talented '03 group of players and forces 75% of them to move to ECNL, if they're lucky enough to be at a club with both. Or, they have to find a new DA club. Otherwise, they better be lucky to be in proximity of an ECNL club. But, if they are a DA only club, they are going to have to settle for DPL or some other league for a year. That's a lot of movement and a lot of dilution. Seems DA could have been top dog at everything, if they went age pure. Then the talent would be tier. DA is top, ECNL is second and so on....

The current model is making it difficult for everyone, college coaches especially. They can't be at 10-12 different events a year. And let's be honest, 99% of girl players are trying to get into college, while USSF is trying to "identify" talent they already have identified. The U15-U18 callups are nearly identical, month after month. You don't see any fallout till college.

That’s the e main reasons why DPL garnered support in the north!

If the dual age band is kept losing up to 75% of an age group of DA players sure seems counterintuitive. Or maybe we are missing the point and what US soccer really cares about are the 25% who are retained as they are the true elite players.

The annual shuffle of teams and talent may benefit US Soccer and some clubs but is not the best environment for the players.
