2018 Surf Cup Accepted Teams

Galaxy should be in top bracket obviously. Albion too.

Appears there was a mistake and schedules have now been taken down. Wonder why they put it up but took it down? Any ideas?
Always happens, don't expect any of the first revisions to be final either, it will go through a couple of changes.

The surprising thing to me was that in the initial posting of the top Flight there was 16 total teams and only 4 were from CalSouth. Typically Surf Cup has always gone right down the middle and 50% Cal South and 50% out of area.

That’s only because you have mostly only been around for the best of the rest. When Surf was more selective I recall playing more nonlocal teams, especially on the boys side. Now that they have these lower flights, they can just dump the local teams there. After all what team wants to come from Texas to cream lower
Flight teams.

Agree with you on the boys. There are many more quality boys team compared to the number of girls teams. So when you have out of state boys teams coming your getting some talented groups. In this age group the best girls teams are playing and they are local. The challenge is determining what girls teams coming from out of state are of the same quality as the Cali teams.

Agree on the boys side, girls side it has traditionally been more split because the best have been from SoCal.

I am not really familiar with the different grouping in Surf Cup. I get that "Super Black" is the top tier. Is "Super White" supposed to be 2nd tier, "Black" supposed to be 3rd tier and "White" supposed to be 4th tier?

Yes.

While I agree that a high percentage of the girls top teams are from SoCal, Surf Cup traditionally only selected a few of the top
SoCal teams. Many qualified local teams were left out in favor of hotel revenue (I am taking 10 plus years ago).

It is odd to me how some teams were accepted over others. I suppose there will always be teams left out but San Diego Surf's third team (Yoakam) was admitted and has lost its last seven games being outscored 31-3 in the past two tournaments they have played (Manchester City and Rebels Cup)! The high ranking for that team comes in the form of last seasons squad who is no longer there but you figure they would know that. Setting up the team for failure against this strong lineup!

Up until they expanded the tournament, most of Surf’s B teams did not make the cut.

Interesting. Doesn't it seem like several local teams in Black are stronger than several of the local teams in Super White? For instance, how can the OC Surf B team be placed higher than Beach or SoCal Academy?
Because they are a Surf affiliate.

Flight 1 Update

San Diego Surf and Surf Hawaii in a battle, good possession by SD under pressure and Hawaii is flying on the pitch, quick combos and a non stop motor. San Diego 1-0 in the 2nd half from what I can tell, haven't seen anyone else score.

San Diego Surf with the win over Surf Hawaii.

Hawaii pushed hard in the final minutes, great passion!
