2004 Boys Try Outs, April 29th, Huntington Beach.

Good afternoon, thank you to those who attended our Futsal session earlier today. It was great to see the boys having so much fun.

As a reminder - our tryouts take placed this coming Saturday, we would like to find four additional boys so we can comfortably run two teams this coming season.

On Saturday April 29th (from 10:00 - 11:30) California Rush will be holding tryouts for 2005 & 2004 boys. We would like to invite you to attend the session and meet our coaching & player development team - we will also have a member of LAFC's youth scouting team in attendance to watch the boys.

The tryout will be lead by Daniel Walpole, who recently coached our boys 2002 team to a State Championship. Daniel has formed a team of talented coaches and trainers from local high schools and other Rush teams to provide a strong support structure for our players.

The development of this age group is being built around the same structure that we put in place for State Champion 2002 team. Daniel has a son playing for the 2005 team (as he does in his 2002 team), so has volunteered to oversee the development of this team, as an assistant coach, trainer and mentor to the coaching staff he has recruited.

Daniel's vision for his 2002 team was to build a program that placed more importance on developing the boys, as young men, than it did on wins and losses. A program that showed them how to learn from both the successes and failures of competitive soccer as a way of preparing them for adulthood.

This plan has resulted in a team that is unique due to:

1. The diversity of the boy's economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds

2. The focus on using the failures and successes of soccer as life lessons to prepare the boys for adulthood.

3. The specific plans to help each student athlete secure college placements/scholarships.

Our goal is to replicate this plan for our younger teams - and regardless of their win/loss record - to develop them as players, student athletes and young men.
