Surf Cup – 04s (8/6 – 8/8) – Tech Specs

MVLA deserved the Cup, they play some really nice soccer. DE Anza and Surf also play possession soccer while the best direct team in sou cal and maybe in USA is CDA Slammers. CDA Slammers will occassionaly move the ball but with there athleticism its tough not to play to your strength. Best of the Best and defense wins championships.

I was able to watch a fair portion of the semi final game against MVLA and De Anza. Both teams move the ball the nicely from the back and control the tempo with possession. And, both teams were also willing from time to time to look long or switch play, but did it with some precision. Obviously to keep each other off balance. Fun game.
 
Can anyone tell me if the Flight 2 champions at Surf Cup have an automatic invite to Flight 1 Surf Cup in the next year? It was a point of discussion today. Thanks!
 
My understanding was that that was the point of playing in flight 2. Unless the tournament has given up qualification of any sort for flight one... though one might argue that there is little point to any of the tournaments these days...

I believe Blues - Kale won Flight 2 the year before and got in this year. However, they had a great second half of the season last year. Not sure if it was the Flight 2 win or their second half body of work that got them in. Blue fan may know.

He is right winning Flight Two Three years ago resulted in automatic bid to Super Group.
Deanza won 2015 that's why they went Suoer this year. Kale didn't win I don't believe they even made it to finals. It was part of all the drama last year .
Kale did finish their season very strongly and started Spring strong hence Super placement I assume.
Next year it won't matter for this age group I believe because of the DA has to have their own flights anyway and won't be part of that mix. That already takes a large number of current 04 stars out of that lineup.
Back to the drawing board again for SURF CUP

One minor correction - De Anza lost in the final to Hawaii at Surf. When we were at the medal ceremony, it was announced that both finalists would get invitations to the top group next year (2016). Of course, we all changed from 04/05 teams to CY teams. As I understand it, the older age group (04's) "inherited" the benefit of the automatic invitation.
