CRL Play In

Tech---any idea how this is setup? Will the top three in each group advance? Or are there 8 teams already qualified and they will take the four winners from each pool.

Anticipating top 3 from each group...teams that would have been automatic will be DA or ECNL come fall and don't participate in CRL. Continuity rule is at around 7 players for a team to qualify as a "returning" squad and accept an automatic bid.

I believe they must keep 9 for roster continuity or forfeit the spot.

No Beach teams are even giving it a go....That surprises me. Yes they will have a GDA next year but between LB/SB and Beach, there were some good players there.

I agree. The question is, whether or not there is enough roster continuity for the auto qualifier spot (which would be their Academy II team). Also with Beach LB Nunez winning Presidents, do they get a spot?

With 20 teams in the mix with 4 brackets of 5, either 4 teams are getting auto bids and top 2 advance or top 3 advance and no auto bids. But 3 out of the 4 auto bids won't have teams to field, only left with Beach - if they return 9. Would that give out 1 auto? If so, why take 20 teams? As for President's winner, they didn't give Governor's an auto two years ago when they gave top 8 auto's - but who knows. It's all a very different world since then.

Auto invites were extended to top 4 of CRL, top 4 at National Cup. This age group in particular was turned upside down because both DA & ECNL come into the picture. Cal South made exceptions in some age groups but not in others to extended auto invites to teams outside the original qualifications.

Heard this morning Galaxy SB is an auto invite for 04s, if that's true are we to assume that team isn't the foundation for DA team?

Wow! Interesting.
Of the 16 teams that made it thru at National Cup, only IE Surf, Arsenal SD (SD Force), Rangers and Westside Breakers don't have any DA or ECNL teams pulling on them. Westside isn't going to the CRL play-in.

So is it going to be top 3 in each group plus lagsb or something else?

Do you know how many other auto invites there are?
I posted this on the G'06 CRL thread. A similar question was being asked. When we received our final auto acceptance/registration email it included some detailed information- CRL 2006-2004 twelve team brackets.
When looking at the 04 play-in schedules and with group winners going forward it appears there are 8 auto accepts that committed to playing.

Trying to port over team names from last year to this year and need a little friendly help. For these teams in the CRL play-in do you know what team name (and maybe coach) they went by last season or if they are a new team. Thanks!

1. CDA FC Slammers HB Melendez
2. Legends FC Academy 2
3. CDA FC Slammers HB Roland

5. Albion SC DPL Academy Kooiman

I think I have the ones below...

IE Surf West MB/SB is now San Gabriel Surf Bradbury ??
SD Force FC Academy Ocampo use to be San Diego Arsenal Ocampo ??
