National Cup - 05s - Tech Specs

With the final group games taking place this Saturday, it'll be interesting for both the set of games that will determine seeding in groups that have already decided the two teams advancing, and the other set of games in groups that are still up in the air.

What to watch:

Group G
Blues - Draluck is firing on all cylinders and will give Surf II a challenge in their quest to qualify. This opens the door for CDA Slammers Segovia to win against Rebels and perhaps sneak in. The scorelines will also be important in both games for tiebreaker purposes.

How does goal differential work? Is "-4" the max for a game? CDA Slammers Segovia gave up 6 goals to Blues but I believe only took a -4 in the goal differential category. So, If Surf II loses 4-0 to Blues and Slammers beats Rebels 3-0 there will go through...correct?

Yes, if both Surf II and Slammers finish with four points, the first differentiating tiebreaker will be (well, could be) goal diff. In your scenario, Slammer would be at -1 and Surf II would be at -2.

Over LAGSB 3-0 LAUFA
Thanks for all the hard work on this thread. I'm new to it but appreciate the information. My daughter is on that LAUFA team (though all of her coach's teams have left LAUFA to form a new club; they were just obligated to still play as LAUFA for National Cup). They came out as nervous as I've ever seen them and gave away two quick goals, but the second half was a scoreless battle. All credit to the Galaxy team - good kids, well-coached, tough to break down.

Our girls have done the exact same thing in national cup.. ... teams score on us within the first 15 seconds. They start like they are in a turtle race. Uugh. That la galaxy team is amazing though...a score of 2-0 or 2-1 no shame in that game.

Congrats to all those that have
Legends 2- murrieta surf 0

Legends played very well... they deserved the win. My poor daughter has a fever, sore throat, knee was hurting and hurt heel ... maybe time for a tiny rest. ⚽️ Good luck to all the teams going on.

Sweet 16
  • Surf vs. Eagles
  • Strikers OC vs. Hotspurs
  • SC Blues - Draluck vs. DMCV Sharks
  • West Coast FC vs. Real So Cal
  • Beach FC - LB vs. Beach FC - SB
  • LA Galaxy - SB vs. SC Blues - Kale
  • Legends FC vs. Surf II
  • Arsenal FC - SD vs. LA Galaxy - SD

In my humble opinion....Here the way I see games going next week,,,

SD Surf Over Eagles ( This will be a great game to watch)
Strikers OC Over Hotspurs
SC Blues - Draluck Over DMCV Sharks
West Coast FC Over Real So Cal
Beach FC - LB Over Beach FC - SB
LA Galaxy - SB Over SC Blues - Kale (This Will be a good game to watch)
Legends FC Over Surf II
Arsenal FC - SD Over LA Galaxy - SD

**Surf SD vs Eagles game will be a very good game to watch, Eagles are great team and have been playing well pretty much all year, however, in the end..I think Surf is just too strong, and will end up dominating the second half of the game, I see Surf prevailing.

**SB Galaxy vs Blues Kale will also be a very good game to watch as well, Kale has a very physically strong team, and they have a very tall dangerous forward that is very fast and can shoot from almost mid field and score, but in contrast, Galaxy is so technical in moving the ball in the back half of the field, and over time... seem to break down most teams defenses, I see Galaxy prevailing.

Anyone else have any thoughts??

Surf vs Eagles & Galaxy SB vs. Blues Kale are definitely the games to watch on Sunday but I also believe there will be some other close ones out there.

Surf over Eagles
Eagles will give Surf fits in a few aspects and a few players. If Surf can make it an 11 vs 11 type of game they should be able to wear Eagles down in the 2nd half just like @Projustice is calling it.

Strikers over Hotpsurs
Strikers has too many weapons and are peaking at the right moment. I think they could make this one ugly and win big.

Blues - Draluck over Sharks
Elimination game time, Blues will crank it up in this one.

Real So Cal over West Coast
Real doesn't give up much and plays a swarming style of defense with solid keeper play. Offensively they have a striker that can wreak havoc on a backline with her tenacity and speed. I think this game will be back and forth and decided post regulation time.

Beach FC - LB over Beach FC - SB
LB is explosive on offense and downright stingy on defense. Although the teams are familiar with each other, I think Beach LB is destined to make a deep run here at National Cup.

Galaxy - SB over Blues - Kale
Galaxy has really started to convert in the box and putting some flare in finishing after always being known as a team that can build up play and control a game over 3/4 of the field. But be careful, Blues Kale is just the type of team that could trip them up and end the Galaxy run.

Legends over Surf II
I think this can really be a close one if Surf II can get it going and find a rhythm, they've been a bit up and down through the first round but opportunistic with their scoring opportunities. Legends is due for some goals and this would be the perfect time.

Galaxy SD over Arsenal SD
Two very similar teams with good possession but the edge in athleticism and strength goes to Galaxy SD.

Best of luck 05s, we'll be out tomorrow with the 04s and hoping for the best for all of you. Don't ever let anyone tell you that @LASTMAN14 isn't a man of his word. He personally delivered to me both a bottle of Jack & a bottle of Coke for me today and sealed my services to cover the 06 age group this coming season!
