@Technician72 was correct, points are at premium, and we (LAGSD II) are doing everything we can to complicate matters. As it sits in our group (F) we have
4 points - Arsenal
3 points - RSC
2 points - IE Surf
1 point - LAGSD II
Our team is doing everything it can to cause problems. My daughter's 1st goal allowed against RSC was unfortunate as she normally makes that stop. Tough game against IE Surf on Saturday with momentum going back and forth. On Sunday, our girls came out hard in the 2nd 1/2 and I thought we were going to tie it up in the end against RSC, but it was not to be. Next Saturday's game will be a tough one; hoping we can prevail in what will surely be a hard fought game. Good luck to all.

PS I think the analysis was right on: "Galaxy SD II deserves some praise for stepping up for National Cup, and they will have their work cut out for them in group play. They were about where expected at Strikers Winter Cup and could complicate things in this group as it is a very balanced grouping. Don’t overlook anyone at National Cup, points are at a premium."

This is such a balanced group, and the soccer has been fun to watch what with so much back and forth.

All four teams are still in it. IE Surf and LAGSD II both advance with wins on Saturday. Arsenal advances with a win or any tie score; RSC advances with a win or 0-0/1-1 tie.

If LAGSD II wins 1-0 and RSC ties 2-2; then LAGSD II wins the group and advances along with Arsenal (RSC loses the shutout tiebreaker to the other two).

Galaxy SD II is a scrappy side, only other squad that dominated our girls physically like that was Blues - Kale. A ton of talent at Galaxy SD for both "A" and "B" teams, still can't imagine how the forward on Galaxy SD II wasn't picked up by the top team. She's relentless and has a great motor. Arsenal will have to be patient with them and spread them out and beat them 11 vs 11 as Arsenal really looks to play team soccer with good ball movement.

Our girls will have their work cut out against RSC, they don't give up much and we have had trouble putting up goals consistently.

Clarification: Even if LAGSD II wins, there is one situation where they won't go through. If they win 2-1 and RSC ties 3-3, Arsenal wins the group based on the shutout tiebreaker and RSC goes through on head to head with LAGSD II.

That being said, RSC scoring three goals or giving up three goals are both rare events.

Sorry for so much minutiae. It's been a slow day at work.

If LAGSD II beats Arsenal wouldn't we be ahead of them based on head to head?

If Arsenal, LAGSD II, and RSC all finish with four points and GF 5 GA 5, then head to head is even (all had records of 1-1 against each other) and the first differentiating tiebreaker would be shutouts (Arsenal with 1; LAGSD II and RSC with 0). Accordingly, Arsenal wins the group.

With Arsenal removed from the group, RSC wins head to head over LAGSD II.

If Arsenal, LAGSD II, and RSC all finish with four points and GF 4 GA 4, then head to head is even (all had records of 1-1 against each other) and the first differentiating tiebreaker would be shutouts (Arsenal and LAGSD II with 1; RSC with 0). Accordingly, RSC falls out, and LAGSD II wins the group due to head to head over Arsenal.

@glen_dandy's break down sounds like one of those math problems from high school that I inevitably failed...

With the final group games taking place this Saturday, it'll be interesting for both the set of games that will determine seeding in groups that have already decided the two teams advancing, and the other set of games in groups that are still up in the air.

What to watch:

Group A
Surf vs. Beach FC - SB, both teams booked their tickets into the Sweet 16 but now battle for seeding. In the case that Beach SB upsets Surf, they'll still have to face a strong 2nd place team from Group E, either Beach LB or Eagles. Doesn't seem much of a reward for winning the group.

Group B
West Coast is already in and hold the head to head tiebreaker on Galaxy SD should they end up even with 6 points. Galaxy holds their fate in their own hands and gets in with a draw against Oceanside. Oceanside can knock Galaxy SD out by winning but then have to keep an eye on Anaheim Surf surpassing them by pulling off the upset over West Coast. Money is on Galaxy SD nabbing the 2nd spot.

Group C
Everything is up in the air for Group C even though Legends is in the drivers seat. They face a tough Murrieta squad that has played them tight before. In the other game Sharks and CDA Slammers HB square off in what should be a nail biter, CDA HB isn't giving up much right now, Sharks will have to earn it.

Group D
Blues Kale and Strikers OC both already in, square off for group supremacy and with Galaxy SB awaiting the 2nd place team, no one wants to take on that task in the next round if it can be avoided.

Group E
Beach FC LB vs Eagles in a matchup for 1st as both teams are in. Crazy to think that we could see a Surf vs Beach game so early in the knockout rounds if things fall a certain way. A lot to play for here.

Group F
Everyone is still alive in this one and both games should be close to decide who advances. Arsenal SD has been the most well rounded team and let one get away against IE Surf. Galaxy SD II will give them fits and might surprise everyone by jumping from last place and into the elimination rounds. IE Surf versus RSC will be an all out war and may come down to 1 goal.

Group G
Blues - Draluck is firing on all cylinders and will give Surf II a challenge in their quest to qualify. This opens the door for CDA Slammers Segovia to win against Rebels and perhaps sneak in. The scorelines will also be important in both games for tiebreaker purposes.

Group H
Galaxy SB is on a mission and 1st place is firmly in their hands. If they can do LA United some favors and run up the score on Legends South, we could see a 3-way tie for 2nd place in this one. LA United with a glimmer of hope, but Hotspurs will look to crush those dreams and continue with their own.

My daughter has already been given the speech this week, "Go out, have fun and play hard." She knows this could very well be the last game she plays with this team as she moves to the 06s after National Cup. We'll be out there all day on Saturday from 8 am as my oldest starts in the 2nd round for the 04 age group, hope to see everyone out there. Best of luck, stay safe and have fun!
