It's amazing to me that there are very few private GK trainers for elite (ECNL/DA) level players in San Diego. Our club (that-which-will-not-be-named) offers 'clinic' training, but it isn't a viable option for a number of reasons. So the only option is private. Which is expensive and logistically challenging. Finding a private trainer that is 1) available when we were able to train 2) had a good rapport with the player 3) fit in our budget and 4) really invested in the player (which takes time and consistency)...has been impossible. We did have a private trainer that was awesome - truly instrumental to developing my player from age 11-13 1/2. He relocated around the same point where my player needed a more elite oriented training program. We tried a trainer but it was hit or miss, mostly miss. So training fell by the wayside both during club season and HS for various reasons. Not training took a toll on my player. Hopefully though, we have found a new training option this summer so we will see. Suffice to say, there is definitely a gap in high level GK trainers in the central SD region if/when the club GK trainers are not a viable option.
