National Cup

Laguna United Blue vs Boca Jrs in the Final with Laguna United FC winning it!
They’re a solid team and extremely well coach.

And there were only four!

Laguna United FC Vs Santa Barbara

LAGSD Vs Boca Jr's

Still have Laguna Vs Boca in the final and Laguna wins it.

Rankings don't play games and anything is possible but the YSR was a pretty good predictor (all bold picks won) in the round of 16 so if applied to the final four:

Laguna United FC-B2003-Blue 39.73 v. Santa Barbara S.C. B2003 Elite 40.28

Boca Jrs LA B03 Premier 40.91 v.
LAGSD B03 Elite-Ritchie 38.87

I would guess the Laguna vs SB is a toss up anybodies game while Boca Jrs should move on.
If Boca Jrs makes the Final the rankings would favor them to defeat Laguna or otherwise a toss up if they face SB. LAGSD appears to be a long shot v. any of the other 3.

This marks the end of the season for most Cal South teams with the exception of the champion, Rebels the CRL champ and these other teams:

STRIKERS SOUTH COAST B03 the SCNPL champ qualified for the national ENPL playoff
CDA SLAMMERS FC ECNL is currently in 3rd place in the SW ECNL and should qualify for the ENPL playoffs if they want to attend?
STRIKERS FC 2003, FC GOLDEN STATE, PATEADORES B03 RESERVE ACAD are going down to the last game in Nplwest to determine which team(s) qualify for the ENPL playoffs.

For the general masses -

The CRL Champ and the National Cup champ are admitted to the US Youth Soccer championships.

And the NPL, NPL West, and ECNL teams play for the US Club championship.

:)

Great analysis there jPeter on who's left for the end of the Season.

My money is on Boca Jrs and Santa Barbara to go to the Finals for Nationals. I am very familiar w/Laguna and if you shut down #4 you'll be in good shape. Galaxy SD has suffered multiple lobsided beatings (5 to 1, 5 to 0) recently so they must have some injuries or they are short staffed. Don't be surprised if they surprise Boca if they are healthy.

The Slammers 03' ECNL team has qualified for the ENPL Playoffs by locking in 3rd place for league. I've heard they will be attending the ENPL Playoffs in Rockford next month.

The Cerritos Memorial Cup is coming up the week after Nationals and Boca LA and the Slammers ECNL team could face off against each other. Could be an entertaining game to watch...

It’s obvious you are not familiar with Laguna United at all, or your soccer knowledge it’s very limited.
Yes #4 is a very good player but there’s no way you’ll be able to be in a NC Semifinal or beat the quality teams they have beaten with just one game changer as you referred to #4.
That team is very balance and well coach.
Give the entire team credit and they deserve it.
Good luck to the last 4 teams standing but I still believe it will be Boca Vs Laguna United in the Final and Laguna will win a close hard fought game.

I'm not going to argue with you Mr. Laguna as you are obviously MUCH more knowledgeable about your team and what it's taken them to get this far in Nationals. BIG Kudos to your boys!! They've definitely had a good run in Nationals especially knocking off the highly regarded Oxnard team last week in PKs. Good luck to you and your Laguna squad.

Santa Monica Blue fortunate to advance for sure, but they were best team in the group. Let's call them a dark horse, although #9 YSR isn't that much of a long shot. They look more balanced than some of the favorites.

Haven't seen LAGSD. They are in by far the easiest quadrant, but party stops at Boca Jrs, or Rebels.

Party on LAGSD!

Hahahhahaha not claiming to be much more knowledgeable about the game, specially bc I didn’t even play soccer growing up, but anyone that has had a kid playing in Socal knows that the best of the best are here and you can’t win games specially at this level/stage with only one player.
I find that to be disrespectful to the team.

You know what’s funny that I have nothing to do with the team I just have a friend that his son plays for Laguna therefore I’ve watch a few of their games this year.
Unfortunately I missed today’s game.

But thank you for the wishes and I will pass those a long.

BTW I still believe Laguna will win it.

Both Discovery teams. LAGSD finished 6th and Laguna 10th. Both underdogs in the finals. Couldn't be better. LAGSD has an NPL game today also, I am sure that they are bringing their top roster. This LAGSD team will be their new DA team next year, so they are all probably competing for starting spots on the team. Laguna really turned it around. They were not this good during the season. New Players? Final prediction is LAGSD 1 Laguna 0. Their last game:

The party still going on? Rebels is out, my money still on LAGSD in the final.

It seem like all the teams them from the discovery league, from the top team, to the middle of the pack and bottom of the pack, all from discovery league is rocking up all the major championship trophy way to go Discovery.

Amazing talent all the way around- toughest league in the country for the 03 age- how will it fair with some of the boys re entering the DA ?

Congrats to LAGSD- the coach is a class act and the boys played hard. I did think the PK called was very questionable but that’s the way it is.
Laguna's #4 is really really good. He gave laguna several chances on some well placed passes but they didn’t finish or were called offsides

Good luck in regionals !

It pains me to see that the Finals were decided by a PK... especially in the Finals.

Glad to see 2 Discovery teams in the Finals but a great tourney nonetheless. Coast's top dogs gave it a good run.

Congrats to Galaxy .... I noted above that this team had what it takes if healthy and fully staffed.

Not very often do you see a #31 seed win a tournament so hats off to them for putting it all together.

Haven't had a chance to view the game yet put where/when did the PK happen? And did the two red card ejections have any thing to do with that?

Congrats to LAGSD and Laguna for a great run. It is really difficult to string together that many wins against quality teams.

I think all of us would stack SoCal against any region in the US.

But let's not get too carried away with the Discovery as best league narrative.

CSL had 11 in the top 16 and 6 in the top 8. CSL consistently places many more top 20 teams in the YSR and Got Soccer rankings.

It would be great if we had all the top teams competing in one league against each other all year long and I guess until then we can have the debate about superiority.

Discovery gets a feather in their cap for 2003s at National Cup for sure.

Oh nice... the game video link for the Finals!! I scrolled into the video to find the penalty that caused the PK (around the 49th minute) and the Laguna defender clipped the Galaxy player in the knee as he was backing in towards the net. It looked more like an accident than an intent to take the kid down. Tough break for Laguna nonetheless.

Regarding the "Red" cards. Hope these kids know that for some reason Cal South carries over the 2 game Red card suspension to NEXT year's National Cup. I saw several notations of red cards being doled out during this tourney. It's a crazy rule but it's REAL.

It pains me to see that the Finals were decided by the refs. Come playoff time the refs should swallow their whistles.... especially in the Finals.

Not only was the PK call a questionable or soft/bad but Laguna scored at the beginning of the second half but the goal was wrongly disallowed it wasn’t even close.
That would have change the game completely.

Horrible way to see a team lose, kids/coaches work so hard to be in this position.

Definitely the referee just Graduate from ASYO. The Ref make two big bad call on Laguna, in the 39 minutes of play without doubt that goal was clean as a whistle, and in the 49 minutes of play, a next bad call by the one eye referee, it more looked like a hands ball on galaxy player to me. I’m only been fair here.
