How's your girl's 09 season going?

I’m not a fan of 9v9, my extensive observation:

-seems to promote long ball;
-takes away the mids play at times;
-limits through balls;
-limits break aways;
-seen goalies punting ball to one another;
-promotes physical play in a small area;
-promotes shots on goal from a distant;
-removes dribbling as so many players in a small area;
-promotes quick passes in a small box;
-key skills is flawless collection and quick decision making and big kick;

-typically lower scoring games;

Parents get frustrated watching.

I am going to disagree I think 9v9 will:
- promotes playing thru the midfield you will have 2 or 3 mids now
- I think mids will have more action - mids are going to play a pivotal role in the top teams
- its going to create more through balls
- break aways, not a fan of them, look cool, may happen a few times only with 9v9
- agree with the punting thing - need to grow the field size (that would solve a lot of the issues)
- physical play is only going to get worse as they get older, this will slowly help prepare them
- shooting from a distance I see as a positive, I would like to see more shots from past the 18
- you should not be trying to dribble through more than 2 girls - PASS
- quick passing, that's a plus, don't show boat with the ball pass it
- lower score, once your in a competitive league/bracket typically they are low scoring games

I know for a fact all the Parents on our team is super excited to go 9v9, I think we will see some movement for sure in the top 10 teams.

Just my opinion

The top few teams will still be there-no movement there;
Superior teams will have to handle 7 or 8 in the box;
Hardly any overlapping when that teams stack the box;
Dribbling is a great skill to develop for the big field;
Shooting past the 18 is lazy soccer a lot of times or frustration by kids;
9 v 9 needs a larger size field.

9 v 9 needs a larger size field.
Speaking from experience, this is spot on and will be very frustrating for many. In many tournaments and league games, 9v9 are playing on the same fields as 7v7. You now have 18 players in the same size of field compared to only 14 a year before. Punts that used to reach halfway line now regularly fall in the attacking third. If we want to do this right, we really need to have incrementally larger fields for 9v9.

Considering the size of certain 7V7 fields we have played, that will feel like being at the DMV on a Monday morning...

Hey Everyone,
Here is my predictions for your State Cup finals based on my outside the box research...

Slammers Cruz 3
Eagles SC 1

Slammers PA 5
Blues V 0

Final
Slammers PA 2
Slammers Cruz 1

As for 9v9 vs 7v7...I think US Soccer obviously just aimed for a median jump and I am ok with it. On a large 11v11 field, these kids get tired extremely quickly when moving up to that size. I am in agreement that the 9v9 field should be expanded another 10 yards by 5 yards. Here on the East coast, there is not punting allowed until U11 on 9v9 field but most coaches won't even punt then. The only teams that punt are the ones coached by parents who just want to play kickball to try and win. If US Soccer was smart, they would eliminate punting until 11v11. This would develop kids to play out of the back teaching them more possession style soccer.

Interesting predictions. While I agree on the teams in the final I don’t see PA beating Cruz (anyone knows their matchup record?). They will all be 4 very good games for sure.
Rain is however once again a wild card...

Hopefully the games don't get rained out!!!

Rain in SoCal? Hmmm, time to play some Tony Toni Tone.

As for the matchup, last match I see is PA took the win 2-1 in August of 2018

Definitely going to be a change with 9v9...but we can't play 7v7 forever. Hard to believe a few years ago before the US Soccer small sided initiative that u-littles started out playing 11v11. I like the initiative with players starting at 7v7 then transitioning to 9v9 and finally 11v11.

The above points are valid...but hopefully girls have been on a team where they actually tried to work on possession and team play. Bad coaches that promote kickball will always have teams that play kickball regardless of whether they're playing 7v7 or 11v11. Teams that play good passing/combination play soccer will be more successful over the long run.
The thing about transitioning to 9v9 is most clubs use the same fields as the 7v7 so it does bog the game down a bit with 2 more field players. Now if they adjusted the size accordingly, that would make sense and probably make the 7 to 9 to 11 transition more meaningful.

In the words of Coach Rudy T. “Never underestimate the heart of a champion”: Eagles 3 - Slammers Cruz 1 in the first semifinal...

In the meantime, in the other divisions we have the following finals:

MAYOR: Nado vs Freedom

GOVERNOR: Legends West White vs Santa Barbara Elite

Good luck to all!
