First year for '05 DA discussion

I agree, decades ago someone like him would have been playing forward or being a major attacking player.. Not defense.
Being a defender myself I like defensive players who are truly good at both, but don't have to be the best at just one. If we are talking about outside defenders I think of Philip Lahm as an example. A prolific attacking defender and who could truly defend.

It's just the evolution of the game. You have to be skillful at every position. It's not longer acceptable to be less skillful just because you're a defender or goalie to a lesser extent. It is beautiful to watch.

Any word on DA coaching changes for next season as the girls move up to U-15?
I think you need to look at coaching changes across all of the aspects of a club. Not just DA to get the real picture.
Earlier thread mentioned the DA director at Surf is gone.
There have been some changes at OC Surf (not on the DA side. But on DPL and F1).
Pats is re-organizing how they do things in OC and will have some coaching changes.
Haven't heard any Blues chatter lately. I think the big question there is "Will they keep DA and ECNL? If not, which one do they stick with?"
And how will ECNL impact things again this year? Will DA make any sweeping changes to try and combat ECNL?

Matchups:
There are two matches this weekend that catch my attention.
Thorns vs Quakes
-Obviously the battle of NorCal. Just not bragging rights but an internal feud. Accusations and propaganda. Thorns took the first round. Will they grab the second? Can’t wait to see the film.

Surf vs Blues
-Both clubs have a long history of success and competitive matches. Despite a series of mixed results I can see these teams dropping the gauntlet and letting it fly.

Thorns vs Quakes will be a solid game. Both teams have good players and they all know each other pretty well. Win or lost you’ll see a really good soccer game. Good luck to both teams. Hopefully parents can all behave themselves. With not playing a game in 2 months so this will be a good test for both teams.

Quakes played last weekend and killed lamorinda... Maybe this game will be a bit tougher for them.

GoToTheB, Heard you tied Quakes. Do you think they will try to take that score down off of YSR?

Good game today. Thorns missed a lot of opportunities with 3/4 off the cross bar. 2 heavy weights that will be battling for years to come. Overall the better soccer play came from Thorns is my oppinion. Quakes play a good brand of soccer but feel the balance and level of play will go the Thorns way soon.
