Games of the week 18-19....

Congratulations to Pats PYL B03 for winning today's flight 1 playoffs beating San Diego surf 2-1.
The kids played well and should be proud that they defeated 3 of the top champions flight teams for a total of 11 goals to 4.

Now hoping to make a jump to discovery if allowed.

Nice story, has this team been together for a while?

It's a made for TV story. The team has been together for only 3 years. A few years back when Pats PYL just started, they needed teams for the new chapter. One of the coaches knew of a bunch of middle school kids from Anaheim that never played club soccer but were always playing the Hispanic leagues since they were little. Pats offferd them a great discount to bring them over.

They came with a lot of raw talent and some bad habits (not passing, dribbling too much). During the First year with no scrimmages, they finished 3rd as a flight 2 team.

Then things unraveled and the new coach didn't inspire these kids. The coach quit just 30 days before the 2017 season started. The new coach (coach Carlos) had 3 weeks to recruit them all back and offer a price that would meet their financial needs and also enough to pay the club taxes.

First game of the 2017 season we only had 9 players starting and we ended up winning 1-0. There's some great stories such as one of the players running 5 miles before a game because he didn't have a ride. Another kid didn't want to go to church so his mom said that he couldn't play an important game. Another kid had to work at the swap meet on Sundays because his mother was very sick.

11 of the 17 kids come from a very poor and tough environment. Their parents are always working so we don't have large crowds. The othe parents are constantly helping with rides and financing uniforms or tourney fees.

We've only played 3 tournaments outside of state cup. Finished 1st, 2nd and lost to a premier team 2-1 with 2 red cards on our side.

This is my son's last year and even though he is a bench player these kids have been good to him. He is learning a lot and appreciating life.

I would hope that college coaches give these kids a chance and hope they get discovered. Great kids that are just getting better.

One of the best 03 soccer story I’ve read this year. Really love this story, such a sad beginning to a beautiful ending. Amazing it is a must read for everyone.

Big upset in Discovery for 2nd place. Pateadores Irvine 2003 Reserve Academy 1-0 over Pateadores LA. San Diego Soccer Club B2003 Academy Navy move in to 2nd place just for a brief moments with a 2-1 victory over Laguna United FC B03. With two more games still to play with Arsenal and Strikers Chingirian still in the running, if both team to win today the 2nd place will decide by Goal difference. Discovery League is nice. ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

So ended up in a 3 way tie for 2nd but strikers took the $ by way of goal difference?

Tough luck for SD who might have had the best 2nd half of the season of all the teams from what I heard/read. Pat's LA started in 2nd but finish 5th,. wow a single goal separating #2-5 it seems.

Yeah me too great story and what a inspiration for those players.

Taking down surf with all there roster shifting, who apparently stacked that playoff team with mostly DA past players and let there discovery team pick up the pieces in getting routed 0-6 vs the 3rd strikers team.

Well, all 3 teams knew 2nd place was on Da line an coming down to goal difference after Pateadores Irvine Reserve Academy big 1-0 upset over 2nd place Pats LA. All it’s took Strikers Chingirian to do step up in big game and make some big play down the line. I would just like to say that was a great win for Strikers Chingirian a team effort.
