U.S. Soccer Bio Banding - Good or Bad?

We did have a thread on this a week ago. Ultimately, 99% of kids wont likely see it. Its a training adaptation and wont change how teams are formed and wont change year group based teams etc. Plenty of coaches already do things like this with kids who are early developers, but this adds more evidence and science to the party. This will be good for the elite players who mature late and help keep them in the system, which is how its used by some professional academies in England.

But ultimately, its a training adaptation that a small minority of players will experience and there shouldn't be a huge fuss made about it. Just US Soccer showing it is keeping up with the rest of the world with regards to training methods and development.

Yes the odd tournament here and there for DA teams would be useful. But I don't see CSL/SCDSL integrating this into their league structure or anything of that nature.

"Bio Banding" is the PC term for playing down, since playing down has a stigma attached to it. "No, my son is not playing down, he is Bio Banding." Yes, I realize Bio Banding also involves playing up, but that is already being widely done and is accepted. By putting playing up and playing down under the same umbrella it makes playing down more palatable.
