NATIONAL CUP - 2018

Illuminati - the question is how did a flight 2 team win the National Cup ?

After last years National Cup - we had 1/2 our squad leave to DA ... no sour grapes their ! We Opted to stay knowing it was going to be a re-building season

RB goes out and finds players that no other team wanted or payed attention too.

RB builds up and revamps his 04 team with a mix of ECNL PLayers and new girls from tier 2 teams and leagues and starts them out in Flight 2, in order to build confidence and chemistry with the team.

Throughout the season RB keeps developing the team and through additional team and private training sessions... with the Sole focus on developing players and getting his girls ready for set Goals! For placing in ECNL and winning National Cup

This Arsenal Team has 4 outstanding ODP players one of which did not play in the tourney and their Goalie got a concussion in Semis and sat out for the Championship game.

Going into finals we had only 2 subs, with arguably the favorite team to win it, Legends is a real good team - Propos and respect!

Arsenal ends up winning Semis and he Championship game by penalties ... with the Arsenal Girls cold as ice in that pressure packed situation ... not missing one goal....The difference you ask ? ....The mental fortitude and the simulated game speed and game time situations where they are expected to perform.

So Illuminati Their was no sandbagging it was a group of girls who no one gave a chance too, they dug deep and winning it!

So Illuminati, I have nothing else to add other than... turn the lights out, on your way out ...to the What if sideline of U14 girls soccer.

Sounds like a great coach who looks for capability rather than what they have at the moment. Love to hear that!

Depends how you define great. RB is unquestionably a winning coach. Always will recruit winning teams. Those kids who go on to be successful in soccer in the future usually do so in spite of the coaching they get from RB which isn't really coaching, it's following his commands. His style of launch it, press, shoot, sub, repeat only lasts for so long which is why players leave him annually. He's burned through more players on his rosters than any coach in so cal soccer history but it's ok and he'll keep filling those rosters up because he wins and even if he runs out of kids in So Cal, he can always call on Hawaii or Texas for some back-up to win another plastic trophy. Peace

That's amazing. Must be some kind of record for a Flight 2 team. Should get a trophy for that too. National Cup for most flight 2 ODP Players.

KeeperMom, not so sure about that

When you look around the IE. and look at how many players he has developed, they all seem to go on to play at high level, prime example is the Legends 02, 03, 04 DA roster, only a handful of Legends players that have come up through their system, everyone else come from other teams and clubs ... almost a 1/3rd of those players come from RB's programs, that's just facts, now please, please, please don't get mad at me, get MAD at KeeperFacts.

Now! I am not asking you to like RB, because he is not everyone, for sure. I can only tell you what I have seen and personally experienced from my kids personal and player development perspective. And this myth... of kick ball is not what you think it is... his style is possession with directional purpose ... just watch his 03 team play. Now, granted, with this team we had to do, what we had to do at times to win.

Re: Our plastic Back to Back Trophy's ... when is the last time your DD got to Raise The Cup? . . . Shush ... that's the sound of Silence echoing in that vast, cavernous space on your shoulders! ...oh I'm sorry, I forgot, , the only cup you raised was that Anti-RB Kool Aid Cup you raised this morning to your KeeperCakeHole-shut .... Shush ... your interrupting sweet silence!

Illuminati, C'Mon on Man! I expect more out of you... enlighten me with your wit and charisma, that comment was rather mundane and dreary .... not very illuminating !

I guess I liked the theory of recruiting potential. I had never heard of it and got excited at the thought of it! LOL I really don't know anything about this guy!

To those adding rational sense and defending the Arsenal Championshop win ... thank you... much respect, truly Appreciated!

And to those slinging mudd, making excuses as to why and how we should or should not have won ... please take the warm comfort of the average and tell your DD ... there’s always next year!

Truth be told this was RB’s SCSDL team that played in flight 2 - this team was coupled together with some ECNL Players of which 2 of his top “ODP” Players did not play in the Championship game.

Every team we played in this tourney was far better equipped to beat us - remember: 1/2 our team we lost last year to DA, we were ranked the 11th seed, we made it in as the 5th Wildcard and we only had 13 players on the team.

There is no Ryme or Reason that this Arsenal team should have been in the 2018 Championship ... other than the heart, will and killer instinct this team showed ... the cold fact is ...RB gets the most out of his girls whether they are A, B, C level players, he knows how to build players with a championship mentality

Like or dislike it, the Proof is in the Cup, or Cups “Plural” I should say

And to those mudd slingers, please continue your tryanical domain of the Average, as you watch us from the sideline drink from the Victors Chalice!

You know I called out "No Shin Guards" when he said Legends will beat you 5-0 and asked him what he'd been drinking, but what have you been SMOKING? Kong, I love your takes and your poetry, but who is slinging mud and calling you an underdog? Ok maybe NSG, but other than that? Remember there are 13 DA teams and 3 ECNL teams that finished ahead of you in ECNL that did not play in National Cup. How are you an underdog?

Kong, I counted at least 7 ECNL patches (the ones I could actually see) on Saturday, so you know this isn't a flight 2 team. So even if you lost half your team from last year, which was arguably one of THE top teams, you're still left with some very good players. So at least in my estimation, you guys still had a very strong team.

And yes, I know a lot of people don't like RB's style, but even they have to acknowledge that RB's players perform when they need to perform.

Lol he's the only coach who's collected a Million Air miles with his approach to play.
Maybe ... but not this time around unless if we can count Temecula and Riverside for Airlines miles ... let's not make another made up excuse ... my advice, Iluminatti take a deep breath and soak in the sunshine slowly!

JustaFan, Don't go anywhere... I still want you as a Fan ....smile!

I was using Slinging Mudd for Dramatic effect only and the anticipation of and RB backlash.

Not to go into it too deep... but yes we have some good players, no denying that, but 1/2 our squad are new players from Top 2 Tier Teams and Leagues. An even though some of those players had ECNL patches, many of the Teams we played, in my humble pie Opinion, were better teams and should have beaten is, what kept us in the game was our heart, and the Strong play of our Back Line and Goalies, they only allowed 3 goals the entire tourney.

In my Opinion, we were the UnderDogs, Cal South thought so too, seeding us #11. Again many of those teams that we played really had a good chance of knocking us out ... truly! Which is why this Years win, at least from our perspective was an impressive run for this team, considering the raid on talent and where this team came from.

And lastly, thank you for the recognition, some people might not like RB, but at the bare minimum respect the players, team, and their accomplishments.

I see where you’re coming from and that is a great accomplishment because there was a lot of parity in this tournament. Even without the top top teams there are plenty of very good teams in SoCal that would be top teams in a lot of other places. Hats off to the Arsenal girls, they deserve it because they earned it.

JustaFan, my point exactly, well said!.... Even with the talent dispersion with DA and ECNL... there were some really good teams 10-16 teams that I can Think of .. Legends East, Fullerton Rangers, Slammers Whittier, SD Navy Academy etc ... All really good teams ... A testament to the deep talent of So Cal .... the only problem I have is that I do think that with Both DA and ECNL disperses the talent, rather than consolidating it into one Super League ... who knows maybe that will happen one day

This much we know: everyone has their own opinions about the quality of teams in these various leagues.

Part of the beauty of this board is that we can present our arguments for why one team/league/coaching approach is better than another. And these arguments are often influenced heavily by our own personal experience and the biases that result.

However, deep down inside I know I’m not supposed to want this..........

I know its supposed to be all about development..........

I hear that winning isn’t everything........

But wouldn’t it be awesome if there was at least one event on the calendar that allowed every team in an age group to enter, regardless of league, with the goal of playing down to a single champion?

If only to create an environment where a Cinderella story could actually happen (and yes, I do love Caddyshack).

Wishful thinking, I guess.

Devupa that would be a “Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac...It's in the hole! It's in the hole! It's in the hole!”

Great point

Love caddyshavk

That would probably be 2 socal DA teams, MVLA and possibly SJ Quakes in the semis...
