2018 - Cal South State Cup - Teams Posted (07s)

Whenever I see a 9 v 9 team line up 3-2-3, I put my neck brace and sunglasses on and tell my daughter to try to touch the ball lots in her warm-up.

Congratulations to these teams, good luck in San Bernardino

Hmmm, I may be wrong with Blues. I literally saw their 07s play for like 10 mins. But all the other teams listed I've seen at length and I'll stand by my claims. Of the lesser teams SD Force play good soccer. Just a waste of the kids when you see the talent on Slammers whack everything in the air towards the goal at every opportunity. But they win...

Slammers PA does not play kick ball. What you are saying is nonsense and far from the truth. It's says a lot when you back pedal on your comment about Blues by saying "Hmmm, I may be wrong with Blues. I literally saw their 07s play for like 10 mins.". You must have never seen Slammers PA play.

I've seen them play two full games. Kick ball personified. Shame as the kids are very talented. It says a lot about you being clueless about the sport with a comment like yours.

Would agree on eagles v blues. But looks like 1st and 2nd in C will play 1st and 2nd of D. D has good teams but I think both blues and eagles advance past D teams to quarter finals. So the blues v Eagles group play game may not have much consequence.

Blues vs Eagles ended in a 1-1 tie with the two goals occurring just minutes apart. IMHO, Blues are the better team, but Eagles had the best player on the field with their one outstanding forward. Blues also had no subs. Great goalkeeping by both teams kept the score low.

At 10 or 11, closely matched high-level teams facing off in tournament play may be trying to do the right thing, but pressure is such that the game starts looking choppy and like kickball, especially after efforts to "play pretty" fail repeatedly, human nature takes over and players want to get the ball forward. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it just seems to be the way of things.

I've seen a few of these top rated teams play against less formidable sides and move the ball very nicely, creating solid sequences and finishes.

If a team can stay disciplined enough to "play pretty" and deal with losing some games they may have otherwise won when they're young, then things can really open up for them later down the line.

That's a big if though. Takes everyone to buy in: players, coaches and parents.

Congrats To Legends FC. We played some great teams and fortunately we got out of our bracket !
Congrats, the bracket was tough. We played you the first game and it turned out to be a very fun game to watch! Both teams battled hard! We did not get out of the bracket (Don't know what happened against Fram) but a tie against you and Slammers PA made our girls very happy and gave them a lot of confidence! Good luck to you both the rest of the way.

Hey I resent "lesser teams" we prefer 1A or Tier 1.5 :):):) Thanks though for the compliment. Its a great club with great coaching! They have a great system that they are implementing throughout all the teams and we love it. I do have to say however the best team I did see this weekend was Slammers, they in no way play "Kick Ball" they make great runs, they move the ball well, have skill at all positions. I saw another post and agree with the fact that teams at this age will ALL still revert to some for of kickball when they are under pressure, the field is fast and small. I just find it amazing to watch how much skill so many of these kids have at such a young age, I just hope they all continue to love the game for a very long time! Good luck to all that advanced.

That's very true at this level and even at the highest level. I'm sure teams in EPL and La Liga all have the necessary skills to play possession soccer. But when facing a stronger opponent that pressures high, it seems they often do nothing but clear the ball from its own third to the halfway line.

Hold your heads high, best soccer out of that group.

Bet the chalk.

What kind of scores do you guys think ? Best game ? Etc.
IE Surf and Devils should be good game. Navy vs. Eagles and Albion vs. Galaxy OC could potentially be decent games as well. Other games could be potential blow outs, but who knows that why they play the games...

Curious to know, during the course of the year how many of these top So Cal teams use guest players from outside of their respective clubs?

I’m assuming the use of guest players would primarily be for tournaments as opposed to regular league games?

Why does it matter now? It's the final tourney and a guest here or there during the year isn't going to impact these results. Everyone probably guests a player or 2 when short in a tourney or during a league game to bring a player up to the first team.

My question has nothing to do with this particular tournament.

I’m curious about the practice as utilized by these top teams, as the part of the country we live in kids from outside clubs don’t guest play for other clubs.

Pretty sure that during the season, you cannot have a guest from outside of your club. You can pass players between teams within the club, as long as the age group is appropriate. IE- a player can play up an age group, but not down. And in SCDSL, a player can play up or down in the flights/tiger structure. (I think in Coast, a player cannot play down into a lower flight. Not 100% sure on this).
