NATIONAL CUP O5 2018

Off the top my head two obvious ones stand out...one less game, plus almost impossible to make WC if you have one bad game.
If top 2 teams advance, wouldn’t having 1 less opponent to deal with be an advantage? For WC, do they not adjust total points to account for tbe fact that there were only 3 teams? I.e. auto enter win by forfit for the teams or normalize the total score?

I will use last years G05 Presidents Cup as an example. Group A had 3 teams and all quite competitive. The second and third place teams missed out because they did not get those potential points that could have taken them to the round of 16. And, if you look at teams who finished second in other brackets they had the number of points needed, but only because they had a the third game. There were also a few other brackets that had 3 teams.

If CalSouth knew what they were doing win by forfeit would make sense but I doubt they do that.

The top two advanced last year as there was 32 teams. This year there are 42-44 so it''ll only be first place plus some wildcards from the best second place finishers (where four team groups have an advantage)

It was brought to my attention by another poster and just verified but it looks like LA Premiere has dropped from National Cup.

GROUPS "G" AND "H"

“Group G”

Legends FC South 05 (YSR #22)

LAGSD 05 Pre-Academy II (YSR #49)

LAGSB 05 Gold (YSR #31)

San Diego SC 05 Academy Navy (YSR #45)

AVG. 37

We all know about the group of death. Typically this would not be it, but in a way it is. Yes, there is no favorite. No one team that glares out and says I aim to be the victor. What it does have is a collective of sides all willing to have a high noon standoff. Legends finished just inches behind Legends Pre-Academy in SCDSL East. And were able to pull out a few squeakers against them. This is definitely a team that plays pressurized futbol. However, current CRL standings show they have struggled against some of the better teams. Yet, pulled off a few upsets early. LAGSD are definitely a bit of enigma when results are concerned. They beat teams they should one week and lose to them in another. This pool is perfect for them. But this is the moment where consistency is a must. LAGSB is a balanced team that also plays in the manner that clearly represents what their club is trying to teach; pass, control, think, learn, and create. Look for them to move the ball and create from scratch. Finishing mid-table in SDDA San Diego SC is a fair team that will make the most of those opportunities to grab a solid win. Yet, like so many other teams truly find it difficult to compete against teams playing on a different level. Look for them to fight and claw at the chance to compete further. This group does offer that.

“Group H”

LA Galaxy SD 05 Pre-Academy (YSR #11)

Beach FC SB 05 Parker/Boardman (YSR #10)

Slammers FC 05 CB (YSR #19)

Anaheim Surf 05 Sanchez (YSR #40)

AVG. 20

Like Group G this ensemble offers something unique. It gives us a very competitive grouping of teams. This will be an all fight between these squads to see who comes out on top. Can’t wait to see what happens here! Too bad there is no TMZ for soccer. Oh, wait there is. In SCDSL South LA Galaxy SD finished behind Slammers, but early on found itself towards the bottom of the table in CRL. This certainly makes for an interesting conversation on why, however with a string of victories this last weekend (in CRL) may have found some consistency. LAGSD plays the ball quickly trying to find its way forward and defensively they are a bit of pressing team. Their style matches up well with this collective. Beach SB has a new coach who certainly has made many positive and influential changes in how these young ladies play the game. They were able to grab a big win in SCDSL North against LAGSB. Their midfield likes to drive the ball forward or wide and look for the wingers flying down the sideline. They have some fierce attacking forwards that hustle and fight, as well as a clever and gutsy goal stopper in the net. Slammers is a solid and competitive side that has a very industrious and tenacious midfielder. With a positive finish in SCDSL South and nice job making it to the Vegas Cup semi-finals they look to have made a jump and are sharpening their play. Anaheim Surf started of the SCDSL season with some great results and looked to be the team to beat. But have stagnated hence. Don’t count them out as this is the time to get recharged and get a fresh start.

Has it been comfirmed that the teams are going stright to round of 16 vs 32?

Once again the end of the season has passed. Winter Cups are in play and National Cup looms in the near future. As in years past this is meant for fun and give a bit of insight on teams. Youth Soccer Rankings are FROM Cal South rankings only. Also, please note that rankings change weekly/daily so they may rise or fall continually before National Cup begins. As of now there is no clear format on what the next round will be. Though more than likely with 11 brackets and 44 teams expect 11 group winners and the top 5 wild card teams from round 1. Then a round of 16 until only two remain.

Over the course of the week two groups will be released daily. Here is the release order:

Monday Groups “A” and “B”

Tuesday Groups “C” and “D”

Wednesday Groups “E” and “F”

Thursday Groups “G” and “H”

Friday Groups “I”, “J”, and “K”

“Group A”

ALBION SC G05 ACADEMY HUGHES (YSR #7)

ARSENAL FC G05 ECNL (YSR #23)

LA GALAXY OC G2005 PREMIER (YSR #43)

TFA S. BAY or South West SC (YSR #24)

AVG. 24

This pairing of teams certainly is diverse in the leagues they compete in to their collective styles of play. Albion is surely the favorites here. They play with conviction and are very organized. Their backline will look to feed the ball to their wingers and force teams to commit defensively. They also systematically work as a unit to close passing lanes and make teams feel uncomfortable. Yet, something lurks and hopefully it can be rectified. Albion has had a trio of disappointing loses in a row at CRL. Surely the ship can be righted. Arsenal will work hard and use their size to battle teams. They did well to make the finals at the Nike Challenge against a strong CDA team and otherwise have certainly won their share of games, but can they win when they must? LA Galaxy OC will have to make some waves in this pool to find a way out. If they do it will not be easy going forward. At Vegas Cup they were quite disappointed. Yet, if they can grab a magical point from Albion and a must point against Arsenal maybe, just maybe, they can see their way in. Sometimes rankings can be misleading and I think this is true here for TFA. TFA’s record of late has been positive, but strength of schedule it has not. This certainly will be a difficult mountain for them to climb.

“Group B”

Beach FC LB G05 R. Perez (YSR #4)

West Coast FC G05 Academy (YSR #9)

CDA FC Slammers Orange 05 Hurtarte (YSR #28)

Slammers FC G05 GA (YSR #60)

AVG. 25

Beach will come out and be ready to play. They will certainly take advantage of their speed and athleticism to try and beat teams with intense pressure as well as fervor. When all cylinders are in motion they close down passing lanes and force teams to give up the ball. See them to also use their forwards up top by creating one-on-ones. On the defensive end they can be extremely stingy with a workman like backline and a pair of top notch keepers. West Coast is a solid side that played in one of the most difficult SCDSL league groupings. They have a nice style of controlled play, but have struggled against top competition. Yet, showed some moxie getting to the finals at the Vegas Cup and narrowly losing to Heat FC who certainly upset the #2 team. If they find their way out of this group will once again need to rise to the challenge in the next round. CDA FC struggled in league but had some top competitors to find their way past. At the OC Tourney of Champions they earned some major brownie points and kudos for upsetting Albion in a shootout. But seemingly could not reproduce that momentum in Vegas. Slammers FC just recently competed in the third flight in Vegas against competition that is quite distant to the ones they will face here. This makes one wonder why? SCDSL also was not an easy ride for this bunch. However, both CDA and Slammers are in a similar boat. To have a chance both need to come up with game plan to keep Beach and West Coast in check. But will have to sacrifice style over results. Not sure it’s possible, but this is soccer and anything can happen.
@LASTMAN14------》 Good stuff!

Love reading these and tossing opinions around. Makes for great reading!

IMO, I think Albion (who squeaked by us with an offsides penatly not called.....sorry... had to .... but kudos for the win regardless) should come out of group A fairly unscathed.

Conversely, I think West Coast has a great shot against Beach to come out on top of the B bracket with Beach's latest struggles. That being said, although we've gotten the better of Beach the last few, it's always a dog fight... Will be one to watch!

Looking at State Cup venues, by the time they start National Cup, there is room for some age groups at each venue mentioned above. The problem is 06 mayors Cup has Lancaster so it is still an option. I was hoping that they had retired that god awful place.

I'd be cool with So Cal Soccer Complex, so much better than Galway Downs. My gut says, Silver Lakes.

No Lancaster, please no Lancaster. Or Apple Valley.

For the love of GOD please pretty please with sugar on top no Lancaster or Galway Downs. Those are the two worse places to drive to.
