Tier 1 teams in north oc?

David Carrillo is 100% a great person. He is flight 2 and the original poster is looking for a flight 1 team.

Honestly not really any flight one teams close to you. A handful of good flight 2 teams but plenty of flight 2 teams have flight one players so if your daughters a legit flight one player she might be the difference of making that team flight 1.

There can be a bad egg at every club, so not sure whom you're referring to exactly in Orange.
As for the G05 coaches they are top class. Erick Hurtarte (flight 1) is a fantastic coach and well respected throughout the socal area. The flight 2 team is coached by Dave Carrillo, brother of Eddie Carrillo, Chapman University & Anaheim Surf, well known in the Orange area. Never heard anything negative about these two G05 coaches.
I agree with Soccer Advocate. Slammers Orange and Hurtarte doesn't have a good reputation from what I'm hearing among parent circles. Shows no loyalty to his players.

I am probably wrong, but doesn't the Slammer's DA team train out at Fullerton College? 05's will be DA next year.

Pretty easy thing to do. First, check out the records of the teams in your area with flight 1 teams for some quantifiable info on the team. Next, see if you can go out and attend a practices (s) to get a better feel for the coach, players, and possibly the parents. It's a good idea to keep an ear out for what people say about the team/coach, but take it with a grain of salt, but if you hear a lot of negatives, that should be a red flag. See what is the best fit for you.

Looks like Strikers North is having tryouts this week. Worth going? Also got a post on Facebook that Hurtarte Slammers Orange team beat ALBION SC 2005 GIRLS ACADEMY team and won the Orange County Tournament of Champions. Might be worth a look and they are a tier 1 team.

05 daughter looking to tryout for a tier 1 team. She plays half back and forward. We live in the yorba linda area and don't want to travel far.
Come out and check out Isaac Ayala G05 team. They are going to go flight 1 and only gave up 6 goals in their group.

What does that mean exactly if you care to elaborate? Players get cut? I know of a U-little team that cut 4 players the day after they won State Cup. It's pretty harsh, but it somewhat comes with the territory of playing flight 1.

Development Alert!

It' crucial to understand that winning teams, playing flight 1, Tier 1 whatever that means doesn' translate to quality or development of a team.

At these younger ages it' easy to assemble teams with big fast players to win now. Short term success at the expense of long term.

Do your research, and focus on technical skills and playing time for the young one.

1 example: Guest players come in for tournaments and get a lot more playing time than players who have played all season and earned spots.
Seems to happen at multiple Slammers teams, not just Hurtarte.

I stand corrected. After a full season at CDA Slammers Orange I have seen and heard quite a few negative things about EH. I'd steer clear of the "Scammers" club.

This is true times 1,000

However, having said that, there is one thing that I have found to be consistent over the years and that is that most parents of flight 1 Ulittles deserve the shitty, win at all costs, coaches and atmosphere that they seek out. Most are short termers and they just don't know it yet. By age 15, most can't even make the watered down flight 1 teams (after ECNL, DA, DPL, etc, etc.) and fade away because of the shame and embarrassment. Not because the child can't make the cut but because, by now, so many other parents know who they are and laugh when they see them hiding in the back of the bleachers with their mouths shut.

While not mutually exclusive, pure and true development has a cost...and part of that cost is winning. If you have a team at Ulittles that is winning all the time, it is a team of poached players from other teams who actually did develop them.

Most ironic in club soccer is that parents with kids on teams with great coaches that actually develop the players are quick to buy into big business club coaches and move their kids over to these hustlers and then complain when they get cut the next year for a newer version of their kid. Vicious cycle.

@onewaynerooney You're totally right in your previous post about Hurtarte. Now that OCP is a Slammers affiliate, they will be under a microscope about so many negative reviews. Orange is losing more players than they can fill new spots for on G05. It's not just the G05 team though—seems to be across other ages that are leaving for competing clubs.

Everything in this post is accurate based on mine and my daughters experience with Orange Slammers. Avoid this coach and club. You're better off playing with a good coach at Flight 2.

Anybody interested in possibly forming a new Pats Placentia Yorba Linda team that will petition for flight 1? I've got 6 or 7 girls from a 2nd place team.
