04s - Games of the Week

Does anyone else have an issue with clubs bringing down ECNL players to play in SCDSL games, isnt that kind of like having tier 1 players play in Tier 3 games? Do clubs really have to win at all costs during league? Heard about 2 incidents were ECNL players this weekend made huge differences in games doesnt seem right

Are these 04 kids that are playing up into u14 ecnl?
Seems like a garbage move. But I don't know the situation- were players hurt? Were the ecnl players not getting any playing time and are they moving to the team permanently?

The clubs do what is best for the clubs, and hopefully the parents understand what is best for their players. Ideally these things align.

If age appropriate players get club passed around between squads to cover needs or provide a "stronger" team for a particular game, AND the rules allow, then I'm fine. Tier 1 SCDSL is supposed to represent "the best", and I want my player to see "the best" at her age group.

Full Disclosure: My player is a keeper. She has club passed "down" to cover a Tier 2 league game when the sister team was missing their goalkeeper, and in previous years she was club passed "up", to provide a competitive development situation.

Nah! Nothing to complain about.

I think at this age they are kids playing up, so why not? Better to play a club's actual flight 1 players. More competition, more of a challenge. As long as they are age appropriate I would welcome it. Best to play the best of the age group.

I'm assuming you are talking about Arsenal who have girls playing up and probably came down today to play. No problem if age appropriate and from the same club. Always want to face the best. That team would run away with their bracket if they keep those girls at their age appropriate team. Saw them play at Surf Cup and if it weren't for a missed PK late would have beaten the eventual champs MVLA. Looks like they wanted to send a message to the team on top. I think this is where the term "paper champion" came from.....

Or you can bring three ECNL players to play for the "C" team and still lose. Not sure how that happens, but I didn't stay to watch the game.

I think it is ok if you have injuries and need a few healthy players to fill in. Also, I think it is ok for ecnl players that don't get a lot of playing time on their own team to help their sister teams out in scdsl. The more touches on the ball, the better! Plus I think it bridges the gap between teams and helps form bonds amongst players on different teams in clubs.

ECNL to Flight 1 should be fine. If they are dropping in and playing flight 2 or 3, that's a bit suspect.
I'm pretty sure DA won't let players club pass. I could be wrong.

CAS G04 Games of The Week 10/8,9

SCSDL Flight 1

Saturday 10/8
Real SoCal EGSL (4-0-1, Rank #2) vs CDA Slammers FC Cerritos Macias (4-0-1, Rank #4)
A mid-season battle for first place in the Flight 1 North Division. Real SoCal has amazingly held on to a top ranking despite an injury to a key player. RSC has one of the best and hardest working forwards up top - but Slammers/Macias like RSC seems to thrive in higher scoring games.
Prediction: Slammers win 3-2

Saturday 10/8
West Coast FC Swanson (3-1-1, Rank #8) vs So Cal Blues Dido (3-1-1, Rank #12)
A battle for second place in the Flight 1 South Division, as both teams look up to the top ranked SD Surf team in the standings. West Coast FC comes into this contest having only allowed one goal in five league matchups. Dido has rebounded nicely since an opening week loss to crosstown rival Kale.
Prediction: West Coast FC wins 1-0

SCSDL Flight 2

Saturday 10/8
Slammers FC Pre ECNL Winn (2-1-1, Rank #28) vs SDSC Navy Academy (3-0-1, Rank #23)
A tough must win game for Slammers-Winn as they look to gain a share of the lead in the South II division. Both teams are evenly ranked and Slammers-Winn probably has a couple of better wins than SDSC but also a couple of worse losses. Both teams could easily make an argument for inclusion in Flight 1. I think Slammers-Winn will spin their wheels for another week.
Prediction: Tie 1-1

SCSDL Flight 3

Saturday 10/8
Pateadores Long Beach Blue (4-0-0, Rank #72) vs Beach FC Pineda (4-0-1, Rank #154)
First place is on the line in the North division but this should be the end of the ride for Beach FC Pineda. Pateadores LB Blue has been dominant and should win this game handily.
Prediction: Pateadores Long Beach Blue wins 4-1

CSL Gold

Sunday 10/9
LA Galaxy SD Elite (5-0-0, Rank #7) vs Fullerton Rangers White (4-2-0, Rank #19)
LAGSD Elite hopes to keep pace with Eagles as the two don't face off against each other for the first time until their 10th game into the season. LAGSB Elite has played the 5th toughest schedule of any CAS team and look to put another notch on their belt at the expense of the Fullerton Rangers.
Prediction: LA Galaxy SB Elite wins 3-1

Sunday 10/9
CCU SoCal Academy (1-2-2, Rank #33) vs Eagles (6-0-0, Rank #9)
CCU Socal Academy has plenty of skill but the athleticism, size and aggression are the big item things they will be lacking against Eagles this weekend.
Prediction: Eagles wins 3-1

CSL Silver-Elite

Sunday 10/9
IE Surf MB/SB West (2-0-3, Rank #38) vs UIFC Venom SC (4-0-1, Rank #36)
Venom can pretty well seal the Silver Elite South division with a road win against IE Surf West this Sunday. IE Surf West will be coming off a tough Saturday game against the feisty Claremont Stars 5 v Two (what kind of name is that, lol) team. Both teams are still undefeated in league play, which is pretty impressive, as the SE-South is a very tough league. This game is a rematch from the league opener that ended in a 2-2 tie. History repeats itself??
Prediction: Tie 2-2

CSL Silver

Saturday 10/8
SC Antelope (5-0-0, Rank #57) vs Futbol Foundations (5-0-0, Rank #64)
First place in the Silver North will be on the line out in beautiful Lancaster (not that Santa Clarita is much better) this Saturday. Futbol Foundations, who is an excellent Silver level team, took things easy for most of the summer playing against lower level competition. When they stepped up in class a little right before league play began they still did well. They will probably have the best player in this game, a difference maker who holds opponents at bay on the back line but gets moved up top if the team is desperately trying to scratch out a goal. This is a difficult game to pick a winner in.
Prediction: Tie 1-1

Sunday 10/9
NHB Black (5-0-0, Rank #31) vs Legacy FC (4-0-1, Rank #49)
Not sure how they pulled it off, but NHB Black only has to play IE Surf Lara and Legacy FC once in league play, while they get to beat up on the weaker teams twice. Not that it makes that big of a difference though, as NHB Black has proven that they should have been a Silver-Elite team at the very minimum this season. Legacy is still right up there in the standings for the meantime, but will be without their coach who was red carded (ejected) from their game last week in which two of their players received yellow cards in a 5-0 win over the Spartans. Wonder what happened there, no? Legacy will be lucky to keep this game within a goal.
Prediction: NHB Black wins 3-1

CSL Bronze Beta

Saturday 10/8
Thousand Oaks FC AC (5-0-2, Rank #171) vs Simi Valley Eclipse Blue (5-1-0, Unranked)
A game with big implications in the Bronze Beta division, which is full of AYSO Challenge teams doing a number on the rest of the league. Look for the Challenge team from T.O. to pull this one out.
Prediction: Thousand Oaks FC AC wins 4-2

CSL Bronze Central

Saturday 10/8
Canyon FC Starbeck (4-1-0, Rank #197) vs BYSC Corona United White (3-1-1, Rank #172)
Two decent Bronze teams battle it for second place in the Bronze Central. Both teams lost to the division leader La Mirada earlier in the league. Corona has had trouble scoring and relies heavily on their tough defense to get wins. I think the Corona defense will pull through and give them a close hard fought win.
Prediction: BYSC Corona United White wins 2-1

CSL Bronze Delta

Saturday 10/8
Apple Valley Storm (5-0-0, Rank #133) vs Celtic Shamrock (3-1-1, Rank #187)
Apple Valley faces off against third place Celtic Shamrock on Saturday. Apple Valley is beatable, as they've had two close wins in league play already. But I don't think Celtic Shamrock has the team that can beat Apple Valley - but nonetheless they will give them a good game.
Prediction: Apple Valley Storm wins 3-1

CSL Bronze North

Saturday 10/8
AV United AC (4-1-0, Rank #200) vs Valencia United AC (3-1-1, Rank #157)
In something that is highly unusual for a bronze league, there is a lot of parity with five teams still in the race for promotion to silver next season. This game pits the current first place team AV United against Valencia United who is tied for second place. Both teams are AYSO Challenge teams, proving once again that good AYSO teams can be very successful at this level. The hard part for the AYSO teams who have success is keeping the bigger clubs in the area from poaching their players.
Prediction: Valencia United AC wins 2-0

CSL Bronze South

FC Long Beach Blue (5-1-0, Rank #124) vs Albion SC OC White (6-0-0, Rank #59)
Albion OC White, the top ranked bronze team in the land, travels up to the LBC to try to put away any semblance of a last competitor for the Bronze South title. Albion should win this game, but they would be mistaken to think this will be an easy win.
Prediction: Albion SC OC White wins 4-2

SDDA Flight 1

Saturday 10/8
Matrix Elite Trujillo (2-3-1, Rank #80) vs Notts Forest FC Red (4-2-0, Rank #32)
Not many games to choose from, but this is probably the most competitive one between to good teams. Notts Forest is a class ahead of Matrix Elite and should win this game by two goals.
Prediction: Notts Forest FC Red wins 3-1

SDDA Flight 2

Saturday 10/8
San Marcos Revolution Green (4-1-0, Rank #53) vs Rebels Blue (4-1-0, Rank #65)
Two good teams near the top of the standings face off this Saturday. This game will be tight and it wouldn't surprise me if things end up tied. But I think San Marcos pulls it out.
Prediction: San Marcos Revoltuion Green wins 2-1

Presidio AAA

Saturday 10/8
LA Galaxy SD White (1-2-2, Rank #107) vs Vista Storm Black (4-0-0, Rank #69)
Vista Storm Black puts their unblemished record on the line against the LA Galaxy SD White team. I don't see any reason why they won't be 5-0-0 after this game.
Prediction: Vista Storm Black wins 2-1

Presidio AA-B

Saturday 10/8
Dynamo ECSC (5-0-0, Rank #118) vs Scripps United (5-0-0, Rank #117)
Tied in the standings. Tied in the rankings. You can't get a more even matchup than this. So what else can I predict?
Prediction: Tie 1-1

CSL - Gold

The season has reached the midway point for most and the standings have taken shape. A few teams have games in hand, but the standings are as follows:
  1. Eagles - 21 Pts. (7-0-0)
  2. Galaxy - SD - 18 Pts. (6-0-0)
  3. Rangers - 15 Pts. (5-3-0)
  4. Breakers - 10 Pts. (3-4-1)
  5. IE Surf - 9 Pts. (2-3-3)
  6. Albion - 7 Pts. (2-5-1)
  7. So Cal Academy - 5 Pts. (1-4-2)
  8. BYSC - 1 Pt. (0-7-1)
With games in hand for both teams, league is definitely down to Eagles and Galaxy - SD. Rangers is the only team with an outside chance of catching either one but would need some help along the way. The battle for 4th should be a close one as there's a traffic jam in the middle of the table.

I've been splitting time amongst both my DD's this season but have been able to catch most of the action. My thoughts and observations:

Galaxy SD is the most versatile team in the league. They lost a couple of starters at key positions and not only made due but have been able to throw different looks at teams. They can knock the ball around efficiently and can turn it up and play some pretty precise direct soccer if need be. They have one of the best forwards in the age group in my opinion.

Eagles is a well coached team tactically and plays to their strengths. They're a very athletic team but play within themselves. They press enough but not exaggerated where they burn themselves out. They hold a high line defensively and have tremendous speed at both the right and center forward positions.

Rangers have come a long way since I last saw them at CRL Play In. They have the game choreographed very well and remind me a lot of the O'Campo teams at Arsenal - SD. A lot of interaction between coach and player. The girls are following direction at a high speed of play and will frustrate a lot of teams.

Breakers is a very good team at the counter and will test teams that like to push their backline up to the midfield. Very big team that plays to that strength.

Didn't get to watch either Albion or SoCal Academy this season in league yet.

BYSC has some strengths on defense and in the holding midfield but need a better presence up top to give them more balance, they find themselves too often having to defend and it wears on a team.
