U-14 GNT Roster

So your commenting on a Soccer forum in the middle of the day on a Thursday, and if your DD made the national team camp you would say No because she'd miss school. Oh ok sure thing.

What is the correlation between forum posting times and desire for your children to miss school for soccer?

Is not school for soccer practice it's school for National team. It just comes off as pompous. Like we are soo cool that if we got the invite we'd turn it down because DD can't miss social studies class in September. just calling BS. If your posting on a forum than imo you are a parent who is really involved in soccer. I doubt you are on a middle school blog site.

I'm sorry, but if my DD got the call, NO DOUBT she misses school to attend camp (what do you think happens in College when they travel during the week?

She will work with her teachers in advance to get the curriculum, do the necessary work will at camp or while traveling and be prepared to go back to class upon her return as if she didn't miss a day!

Responsibility and accountability are life lessons and USWNT call ups are life experiences I don't see the down side.

This still makes no sense. I am on a soccer forum because it is entertaining and my job sometimes sucks. That doesn't mean I want my kid missing weeks of school for a u14 national team. Many people who have their priorities straight wouldn't. You are really grasping for straws with this stupid argument.

I can understand this as well. It's just not for everybody.

well I can't use color crayons and stick figures or talk slower so oh well. You just sound like the kid in school who really wanted to go to the party but no one invited because you suck. And now are saying you wouldn't go anyway because you wanted to wash your hair.

It sounds like you are implying that my kid sucks, which is really immature and lame.

I guess I can imply that your kid is barely passing middle school so you are putting all your eggs in the soccer basket in hopes she may go somewhere other than community college.

No im implying you suck. I'm sure DD is awesome. Now go back to your job worker bee.

There is always mandatory "study hall" time that is set aside each day for the girls. They get anywhere from an hour or two to do schoolwork. You get enough notification for camp that schools will typically always work with the girls. it has never been an issue personally, for my daughter, and her grades have never suffered, and she carries a 3.8-4.0 as a njhs member. It can be done =) there are also girls who are home schooled. depends on the girl, everybody is different =)

Funny, because I tend to agree with a lot of your comments. But saying I suck because I would prefer my kid to continue to make honor roll and get into a good college than spend that much time and effort on the small chance of making the wnt?

I'm not a worker bee, and my children won't be either, thanks to our family's philosophy of academics before sports. Good luck to yours.

Very cool.

You are right, everybody is different. Although according to @Nutmeg, if you are different, you suck.

No not true. Different is ideal. You can't get more different than me. Going to National team and being a great student are not mutually exclusive. Both can be done in my opinion. But I will say this I love the balls on you for sticking to your principle with me. I way more respect that and you now for not changing your mind and going right back at me. I love the debate sometimes. If your line in the sand is this than who am I to say anything. Good for you. Lets all be friends now. New topic, Hurricanes they suck. Right!

I don't disagree with you, but it is not for us. Looking at that list, I know of more than one who are homeschooled. That is in no way an option for our family. I'm still not sure how that means I suck, or jealous. We know a couple of the girls on the list, and we are over the moon for them.

No, I am not one to back down. Glad we got that straight!

But yes, this all seems petty and ridiculous considering there are people afraid for their lives due to hurricanes right now!

Congratulations to all of the girls selected between the GNT U14 and U15 teams. It will be interesting to see how many of the U14 players are listed next year, the year after and so on. If I recall correctly, there has been some turnover already on the U15 roster (the 03's) from when they were first announced last year.

I was talking to my dd yesterday about the rosters and the upcoming camp (September 10-17) and she asked me what about school for these players. I told her I had no idea how they manage these camps and schools.

Which leads me to a question for the forum.....if your dd (or son) made a National Team camp that conflicted with school, what would you do? I told my my dd that if she were ever invited to a camp that conflicted with her school schedule, the answer would be an easy "no" to the NT camp.
A few years back, my older daughter was on a cheerleading team. Towards the end of the season, the team started shouting Orlando! at the end of each practice session. Eventually, the parents were told that they wanted to take the team to Orlando for "Nationals" in March, and miss 6 days of school. I was incredulous...I asked what they had won locally, or at the state level, or regionally that would qualify them for Nationals. Needless to say, the team ended up not going, and instead went to an event in Vegas over a weekend.

But if my kid was invited to a National Team camp, I would absolutely say yes. You can manage their school work by giving the teachers plenty of notice, and making sure that they have study hall during the camp. Earning an invitation to a NT camp is quite an accomplishment. For the last 4 years, my daughter participated in National League events in North Carolina, missing nearly a week of school each time. She was able to maintain a great GPA, and compete in the National League event. That doesn't mean this decision is appropriate for all families, but it worked out really well for my player.

Let's start with the commenting on a soccer forum in the middle of the day. Hey kettle, you're black too. There are periods in my work day where I have some extra time to get away from work. I like this forum and choose to spend (too) much time on it. This forum has helped me tremendously with understanding the club soccer scene and I am very grateful it exists. It is nice to be able to come to a site where you can ask question and not expect to be ridiculed for your thoughts/opinions.

As for missing school to attend a NT camp.....absolutely, my dd would not attend the camp if it interfered with her school schedule. I realize that there are many parents out there that have a different opinion on this matter and that is cool with me.

I was only asking for opinions on the matter and not passing judgement or saying parents are wrong if they have their son/daughter attend a NT camp.

Thank you for this information. I was unaware of what the particulars are with the NT camps. It doesn't change my opinion of missing school, but it does give me more insight into the matter.

I like the forum too, some days more than others but it's a cool thing. Not to beat a dead horse but My point that I kinda butchered was simply this. The fact that we are on a soccer forum can equate to soccer is on some level important to us. I was just initially skeptical that one would just turn down the offer without finding a creative solution to doing both. So if a National Team Email came to you and a big box of US Soccer Nike gear showed up to the house along with the opportunity to train with the best and learn some fantastic information and your family's choice was to pass because of school. Than great.

Congrats. Teagan that 04 goalie is no joke. She's the best I've ever seen at that age. Even when she plays up on 02 teams, she stands out. Incredible athleticism. Glad she made the roster.
Would be nice to see the breakdown of ECNL/Academy/Others on this team just to see where players fall. Teagan I know is on the WC academy and I assume the legends girls came from academy as well.
Lucky girls, very talented, congrats! But disappointing for a lot of other talented players, especially since it is supposedly a two year cycle.
