CRL Play In

That's confirmed.
That means half of the team last year didn't make DA thus remains on the team. Or if the club planned ahead, they could roster players from 2nd team towards the end of CRL season. Those names will help with roster continuity if majority of the top team players go to to DA.

There's no way (and lightning red can confirm this) that 9 players were left off the 04 DA team to form this second team that has an auto bid in CRL.

Same would go for beach legends etc
So it's clearly not based on player retention

It can't be based off of the prior rules for player retention. 80% of last year's team will play on the DA team.

Beach has players from 3 teams who played in CRL last year. Does that count for returning players? Anyway, it looks like Galaxy South Bay is still having the DA tryouts for LA Galaxy. I don't even think they know their rosters yet. A lot of players don't even know which team they're on yet. How can they get an automatic bid when they aren't even finished with tryouts? Seems too early to have CRL play-in unless they circumvented the rules regarding consistency of rosters. Where are the rosters found for CRL teams? Nothing appears updated on Got Soccer yet.

The teams that earned automatic spots in 03's were given to the clubs to select a team for the spot. With all of the changes the roster rules we abandoned. Beach has 2 teams in and one was the second flight 1 team in the SB who did not qualify for CRL last year.

That makes complete sense. Probably the best way to do it this year with all of the changes. I'm sure the clubs know who their top teams will be... I think that was a smart move.

Why is Galaxy SB hosting Galaxy DA try-outs? You're not telling me that this was all a sham to get LAGSB accepted into DA under a different name? Wasn't their application rejected? Does that mean the DA is being coached by LAGSB coaches?

Many of the LAGSB girls are trying out for LA Galaxy DA. A few have been notified that they have made the team, but most haven't heard whether or not they've made the team yet.
LAGSB coaches are the coaches for the LA Galaxy DA with the exception of Kevin Hartman, who has two teams.

Thanks for the clarification. So it's really about money then? LAGSB is now magically qualified to host an Academy program, because big brother is making it free? If you have to pay, it's not good enough...but if it's free, it is good enough? I see how this works.

Some LAGSB players were told they made the team prior to LA Galaxy DA try-outs. If they aren't affiliated, how did that happen? Because of that the 2004's lost a lot of players to Beach. They verbally gave spots to a few and not the rest, so a few parents took their kids and left.

Just got an email from Cal South. Roster continuity applies to any 9 girls who were registered to the club last year. They don't have to be on the team that won Nat'l Cup or CRL. That is how those DA clubs are getting auto bids.

Heard about this last week, thanks for the confirmation.

So basically there is no roster continuity requirement, what clubs maybe besides the smallest ones possible don't have 9 returning players in a age group?

Nothing new for CS, been changing posted rules all the time & giving out unearned spots in CRL. Let some other kids earn the good marks and the new kids will inherit those because they sit in the same chair as they did at school.

Any idea when schedules for Round 2 will be posted?
This play in just got messier. There was an email this morning saying multiple conflicts this weekend (prob Legends Classic) and they want to know if teams are avail this weekend, next weekend for first one in June. I wonder if bracketing will be impact due to avail.

I see at least 6 teams in round of 16 in Legends Classic this weekend. Then the following weekend is Manchester City Cup. I'm sure there will be conflicts there. From there the following weekend is Legends College showcase. So round 2 might need to be played in Mid June if they can't come up with some creative scheduling.

Cal South might as well make those 6 teams decide where to play this weekend. I'd hate to see this pushed out to mid June with graduations and vacations.
