State Cup

Hello everyone, I'm the coach for the Arsenal FC Pre Academy team..

First of to seesnake.. I did not curse AT my kids when I called them in during the 2nd half, I did curse in front of them. Does it make right or wrong? probably not. What was said, is between me and my boys... but you are way off.

Dallas - The only other player that attend the tournament with us, is AS currently playing with 04/05 Arsenal Academy team. Great player, good for him that he made the Academy otherwise he would of been part of our squad. He also played with us in Cerritos.

Orlando... No borrowed players, we actually had one kid not show up cause he had a family emergency the night before his travel departure. Played the whole tournament with one sub.

To Legit_Play, - our striker, my son, fractured two toes on Thursday nights training session.

to Uburoi - No deep pockets, just dedicated parents. This year we will be doing COPA Chivas in Mexico.

To Everyone, how TFA came out against us in the second half was incredible, they took their game to another level.. Hands down best team I've seen this year... From Florida, to Dallas, To California.. Hope they win it all.

I met alot of great parentsthis weekend also from other teams we have never played what I got is that everybody knows everybody specially here in the forum.
So here is your factual information
What you saw this weekend and other tournaments that's our team. For Dallas
The only 2 players who are not in this team that were there was our 07 goalie from our second team. We also had Alex an 06 from our team who actually made the 04/05 Academy in July. We played up in 05 tournaments over the summer
Check out the stats from our last Arsenal Tournament. The team doesn't borrow players to win tournaments. This is a new team with probably 3 or 4 players from last year's 05 .Yes every team is new due birth year change but I day 8 of 10 teams combined within their own club. We did not do that This is a new team. Why you didn't see much of us during season is because we played up in the 05 flight one I'm sure you are going to check out stats
Every game we played the opposing team never scored on the first half we'd start leading first half and of course fatigue would kick in. This is a very strong team
It actually hurt us not being able to do headers in state cup. This team will stay together and will be one of the best possession teams. As far as our striker
He got injured during practice during the week so he did not play Saturday either and the boys were still able to put it down against the eagles.

Yeah, I think you are right on this. You didn't curse AT your boys and it is class of you to admit it probably wasn't the right way to speak. I was twenty feet away and up a hill. I heard everything. Also, good of you to reach out the hand to TFA's coach at final whistle even though you had gone at each other a touch.

I also think if you'd had your first-choice #9 it could've made some difference in the match. You could've madet he ball stick a bit and started to grow into the game a bit. Credit to you for building a strong team.

I told y'all fields were bad. Teams gotta adjust and play at whatever comes at them. Saw part of the video of the. I think that s the same team Arsenal that beat TFA blue 5-1 at Cerritos
The battle between the TFAs ended in only 3-0 in the following round I wonder
if the blue team played with 4 defenders
Instead of the 5 or 6 they have been parking in the back as they did in vegas

Do you pick and choose which comments to respond??? You sound like the arrogant my Son plays at TFA type parent Pumping your chest "Cal south didnt want another TFA vs Tfa final... now thats cute ...
let me guess any team that does well in tournaments must have borrowed players except for your team...

State Cup is a competition that involves multiple leagues throughout Southern California and it is subject to USSF rules. SCDSL deviated from the USSF rules and required build out lines and prohibited punting for the 2006 age group, but CSL did not, in part because that was not one of the USSF mandates. USSF only required those rules for 10U and below, not for the 11U, which is 2006 this year. It may be that the rules should apply to older age groups than 10U, but that's an issue for USSF, not Cal South. Otherwise, what you're saying is that SCDSL is not the league to enter into if you want to prepare to enter into competitions governed by USSF rules.

The ban on headers at this age group and below was part of a settlement of a class action lawsuit brought against US Soccer and Cal South/Cal North/AYSO etc. That's why it exists for SCDSL, CSL, and State Cup.
Thanks!

Where are all the 06 kids? I don't think in all my years I've seen 1 team in an age group run away with everything in the way TFA is. No doubt those kids are talented kids, but surly this age group has to have more to offer. Are they hidden and spread out on multiple 05 teams since the DA has pulled some 05s up? Will this age group even out next year within the DA? Should be interesting.

I think that is exactly what has happened to the 06 age group. A lot of the talented 06s are playing up on 05 teams. As those players now migrate to Academy clubs next year things will even out. TFA will still be a very strong team but maybe not as dominant as they are this year.

I think there is plenty of talent out there. If we're talking specifically about last week in Escondido, I think field conditions had a lot to do with the outcome. But like what has been said here, games were close, and TFA definitely was the bright spot as far as overall quality, but things could've been different. I think a lot of teams showed quality. I don't think boys playing up in 05 had that much to do with it overall. Wouldn't a team grab an '06 from an '05 team at the club to maximize their potential in the state cup? I would think any academy would do that. We shouldn't water down the effort of these boys. Also, they're only 10, in a high pressure game away from home, it's unpredictable.

Thank you for setting the record straight now, no one can just assume when it comes to your squad. Hope your striker/son has a speedy and full recovery from his injury and it was a shame he wasn't able to compete this weekend. Great complement coming from you Coach as you have been privileged to witness others squads across the nation and hopefully TFA will be able to accomplish that which you hope. Moving forward, good luck to you and your squad good things are in store for you if you're able to stay together.

There is alot of talent in the 06 age group. The wonky fields, pressure, new age groups could've played a role this season. One thing I noticed from solid teams such as TFA, they all play on the same level and or intensity so there was not really a weaker spot or when the "bench" is subbed in the game doesn't shift. Not all 06 squads have that yet with the new age group change and some never will.

It's not really surprising that TFA and LAUFA are two of the teams in the semifinals. They were good teams last year who recruited some additional pieces this year, in no small part because they had advantages that most other teams don't have: (1) U12 Academy status, giving kids who joined this year the promise of Academy status the next year (although TFA loses it the year after, putting them at a disadvantage v. LAUFA and LAG/LAFC and others), and (2) fully paid spots on those teams before they are in Academy. Lots of teams have the first, but not the second of those advantages, so they were able to recruit well. TFA plays a style that is likely to be more sustainable than LAUFA when puberty hits and athletic advantages even out, but TFA definitely benefited from recruiting players last year to improve upon their already strong base from the year before. Plus, with three strong teams in the age group, I'm told by parents who have taken their kids to tryout at TFA that the practices are intense and competitive for the entire time, which is not as true in other clubs where the gap between the first and second teams in the age group are greater and therefore the kids on the first team are pretty comfortable in their spots.

The top squad only had 3 returning players from last year with a huge turnout for tryouts last year. Credit the coaching staff and administrators for being able to fit in the proper players for the top squad and fielding 2 other squads that would be top squads at any other club. Most see them play as though they play only to win tournaments, nobody sees the kind of work these boys do in training and in following what DA developing standards require. The titles are just the results of the work they put in. It would be criminal for US Soccer to not allow this squad to stay in tack with this club in the future IMPO.

The DA already denied TFA's application t0 expand from U12 to U13 for Academy, so I'm not sure what will change in the future. In part, there may have been politics and path dependence involved (LAUFA has more political juice and already recruits boys in the same area) and in part there is a general view that the new U12 Academy clubs were always supposed to be terminal grants that broadened the entry point, without diluting the quality at the end. It's a pyramid that is supposed to find and develop players, not build teams or clubs. The current TFA academy teams are either going to have to break up or find a DA that will take them as a unit (not easy since all of the existing full academies had their own teams at U12). In fact, I might suggest that breaking up teams is a design feature, rather than flaw, of the current DA set-up. They don't want kids to get too comfortable with the same team and coaches playing the same role. It's designed to make everyone fight and adapt every year, not to keep winning teams together.

Really? Why does LA Galaxy have a High School then? I'm sure it's not to have students rotate in and out annually. MLS clubs have a need to produce winning teams and to do that, chemistry plays a huge part. At the youngers, it's common place to preach communicate vocally and loudly but, chemistry and time spent together allows squads to flow and know what each other think/feel in certain situations to minimize the need of verbal communication. For MLS teams, success generates a fan base which in turn generate revenue the longer you stay in the system the easier it becomes to be rooted in it to move forward through it. The design is to break up successful squads who have put in the long hours of training and who are not in the loop, to help build other academies (MLS) who will benefit from it. I'm just wondering how long it will take for the situation to shift like the women side and produce better quality recruits for the National Team through another association.

All MLS clubs are given automatic full academies in the DA because they have the financial incentive to fully finance their programs and to pick the kids who can lead to profits for the first team. That was the deal when the system began. Pretty much all new full academies are pro teams now. The exceptions are where there are no pro teams or not enough pro teams in an area, which is the main reason US Soccer puts up with letting pay for play clubs run Development Academies.

If you think LA Galaxy keeps players together as teams from U12 up, you haven't been following the rosters very closely year after year. LOTS of turnover, even in HS, although it's less then because that's the narrow part of the funnel or pyramid when they've already winnowed down the players who don't develop. Also, lots of recruiting occurs in HS since the pro teams' Academies can skim the best players off the top from other clubs.

Bottom line, check the numbers. For 2017-2018, 150 clubs have U12 teams, 115 have U13 teams. By U16, only 77 clubs have teams. A lot of kids won't have seats when the music stops as they go up the pyramid. All those kids from teams with no U13 academy team are going to be trying out and competing with kids from clubs with U13 academy teams who played on that club's U12 teams. Turnover is built-in to the system.
