How's your girl's 09 season going?

With our 2010 team, the team will play some 9v9 tournaments for development. What are the key things to focus / improve on and will help make transition easier? Headers, receiving goal punts, off ball movement, passing etc. Thanks in advance for suggestions / ideas.

You've got another year for headers, so probably not that (OK for 2008 right now, not for 2009).

Pretty much yes on everything else...off ball movement and passing of course can be a focus in 7v7 games too, but getting used to new formations and extra players would help.

But absolutely yes on the punts. That change really creates a need for the girls to be more confident in taking on first, second, third balls - and thus developing touch from juggling, etc. and putting it into action in games will help you next year.

Agree w/ Tim on punts/goal kicks and not letting the ball bounce.

Width, spacing, combination passing (give and go's), playing away from pressure, crossing (away from the goalie!)...these are areas that will need to be worked on as they transition from 7v7 to 9v9.

Pre-Columbus Day Tournament Weekend.
https://youthsoccerrankings.us/rankings/National/11/Girls/

LAGSB and PDA Legacy has made the biggest jump of anyone. Congrats to LAGSB on the improvement.

Look for Lehigh to continue to drop in rankings. They are playing in another big tourney this weekend with a lot of tough competition. I will be surprised if they manage to pull out winning the tournament. That said, Slammers PA will take a solid grip on #1 after this weekend. DKSC Voutier will continue not to move until they play girls teams again.

I predicted PDA would be #1 by the end of the '19-'20 season. SUSA and PDA play each other in this weekend in a big tournament. This is the true game for #1 out in the east.

Goats FC is hanging tough in the 9th spot heading into the international break and the big, crucial, must-win pre-holiday tournaments.

Maybe you are just mad you can't win a tournament in state or out of state. Not even with an All Star team. Now that's funny.

When my DD was young I was also under the illusion that tournaments mattered. Then I realized that the kids didn't care about them and that a hotel pool in San Diego or Texas or Denver is all the same to them. These days, the medals go into a shoe box never to be seen again, or she doesn’t care about going up to the podium to collect it or pose for photos. Your focus on tournaments shows me it’s about you and your expectations vs. the kids. Plus on top of it all, we SoCal teams don’t need to travel to play good teams. We have great competition here week in and week out.

I was just talking to my wife and dd about all the travel and tournaments we did for HER development. My dd loves to compete but she also wanted to make her old man happy. I got real :) :) :) :) come tournament time back in the day. Being adopted and not having any blood relatives, maybe I had extra pride when my baby goat kicked ass and helped her team win a few big tournaments like the "Joy Faucet Invitational." That was no, "Big Hat No Cattle Showcase" at her showcases let me to you. Joy was even there to watch :) Since we clubbed hopped so much looking for the winning team, we always played 5-6 games a weekend and always in the finals. Sometimes 3 games in one day and I wanted more. @MARsSPEED and @Luis Andres you sure you got this all figured out? Just wait until they become teenage girls. Good luck Dads!!!! P.S. I'm going to be a "club hopper" and my wife is going to be a "soccer mom" for Halloween. I will post pics :)

Nobody has to go anywhere to play good teams...

My DD's team is not a highly ranked team and it doesn't bother me. If it did, we would just switch clubs and play at Loudoun. Actually, we have thought about moving to even a less talented team/club than we are currently at because we really like the age groups coach and the clubs management.

I just troll around over here because when I first arrived, it was comical to me how hypocritical many of the users are, creating local spreadsheet rankings at the U10 age but criticizing me for comparing SoCal nationally. Not to mention, claiming YSR is absolutely correct with its rankings which has since been wrong in just about every tournament that SoCal plays teams from other states. Just facts.

Speaking of trolling, seems we just go in circles. It's not fun playing chess against pigeons.

not sure what you mean when you say that kids didn’t care about the tournaments at u10. Sure they all love the pool and hotel and hanging out but come game time they are serious and want to compete and win. When our girls lost in a semifinal to a tough team they all cried after. What does that tell me? That they care. I agree it’s not about the medals but don’t say that they don’t care about winning tournaments at that age. Maybe your team just was not competitive or that serious

My kid has always played on top teams and has had tourney wins and tourney losses. She loves to compete and has been in tears post a Far West Regional final loss. So you are right to say that she cares and that most competitive kids care. But as an adult, it’s something to think about when you care more than they do, or when you put emphasis on winning “big tournaments” at 9 or 10 when there is actually no such thing in the long run. Don’t get me wrong, I cared also when my kid was young but then I learned. Sorry to hijack this away from season results, but it’s just too easy to mention Goats and troll Mars when I know Mars is lurking about in a forum most of the way across the country. Maybe you should post about this on the Texas forum Mars.

We made fun of you because you made up your own "MARsINDEX" which was 100% based on your own opinion (versus YSR which is calculated using an algorithm against thousands of scores).

So many places to go with this to spin for weeks:

- Thorough exploration of all OH soccer laws on the status of quasi-legal all star teams and whether said invite must be immediately rescinded
- GOATS spokespeople politely turning down the invite saying “we don’t need to travel out of CA to play good teams”
- A decision amongst us all that GOATS must attend otherwise how can we fairly assess them in the Super-Copa-adjusted YSR rankings.
- The dilemma #1 and #3 above present us with.

Yep, I just threw up in my mouth.

Funny how Slammers PA can get two invites? Because that's who GOATS is, the SLAMMERS PA with guest players. I don't know why none of you will admit to this. It's on video.

Anyways, wonder which team goes, SLAMMERS PA, or SLAMMERS GOATS?
We'll keep it a surprise and let you know June 18th, 2020.

We'll keep it a surprise and let you know June 18th, 2020.

Please let me know earlier so I can try to put together my own All Star team. I’ll even use a local forum. Problem is MSYSA will not let you card one player for two teams. The reason why is to prevent All Star teams...

We’ll call ourselves Cows Atletico. Maybe I’ll let Texas know about the plan too. Wonder what team name they come up with.
