SuperCopa

Is this tournament all it's cracked up to be? For those teams that participated, how was your experience with it? Our team considered going this year, but a large number of parents couldn't raise the funds on time.

It looks like there are some really good teams attending so I imagine it will be a good competition. 3 of the top 5 team in the nation according to YSR will be there. I can say that two of the teams from my area in northern CA, Stockton and Stanislaus lost key players to different teams after tryouts last month. They won't be nearly as strong as they thought they would be when they signed up for this tourney, but I guess most teams go through that.

For U11, the team list is typically the best tournament in the country (and definitely the most competitive tourney that does not take place in California).

This year is pretty typical. 3 of the top 5 and 10 of the top 25 teams in the nation (and almost all the other 14 teams who were invited are also quite good and ranked in the top 100).

Have to give them credit on using US Youth Soccer Rankings for the seeding, wish ManCity, Surf Cup, and Blues would do that here in SoCal. Next year, it will be far west regionals and Nationals, last year Super Copa will have these top teams.

Not an ideal start for SoCal. 1 win, 1 tie, and 2 losses.
Legends indeed look like one of the favorites, though.

Keep in mind for next year, if your team wants to do it. Most likely by this time next year your team will transition to a 11v11 roster size (16-18 players), however supercopa for u12 is still only 9 aside. Makes subbing difficult.

Any insight on how the tournament played out?

Some really good talent on display. The semifinals had 3 of the top 5 teams in the country. Blowouts were few and far between as most everybody deserved to be there.

I would say the play was a bit sloppy at times as the wind was howling for most of the week and the fields got bumpy. Hitting it long and hoping for a mistake started to become the defacto style of play as the week wore on for several teams.
