G05 CAS Rankings

I am sorry but I do not agree with rankings of children's sports teams.
Isn't that what happens when you play in a league? 8 teams, ranked from 1-8 based on their record? Or league cup? You play games to see if you can make it to the quarterfinals, thus top 8, then semis, then finals?

I'm pretty sure most of the parents here don't share this info with their kids, who could care less. My daughter has no idea what our record is. Some of the kids don't even know what final score is. As a parent though, it is nice to see how the team is doing compared to others, see if your team is improving. You might notice you keep losing to the same team, come look at the rankings, and see that they are a high ranked team, takes some of the sting off, especially if you are getting closer with each game. Combined with what you see on the field gives you a nice idea how things are going for the team. Also fun to look at when you play a team for the very first time. Who are they, what is their record, goals for and against, and lastly, their ranking. All in a nice easy package to look at.

Having said all that it is just a fun little tool that is available to do whatever you want with. Pretty sure I'm the only obsessed soccer dork parent from our team that even comes to these boards and looks at the rankings. :)

Yes, what some people fail to realize is that teams are already being ranked. Once you keep track of standings you have rankings. Once you put teams into flights, you have rankings. Once you play in a tournament they are ranked. If you play in CSL League Cup the teams are seeded/ranked and it is pretty obvious what their rankings are as you can just snake through the list of teams from top to bottom. Once you play in a GotSport tournament you are ranked. All these are defacto rankings, just presented in different formats with some more accurate than others.

Tango, how do you work it when scores aren't available on Monday? Just filter the missing results into the next week? Really like the work you do here, so thx again!

Sped, if scores are missing then they are left blank as if the game was never played and it gets added in for the following weeks rankings. Not sure how hard it is for some managers to enter in scores of games within 24-48 hours of completion. Thanks for the question!

another question since I'm bored at work today... do league games count any more or less than any other games? For the most part, the rankings are in line with our league table, but there are a few teams well ahead of us on the rankings with lesser records that we've beaten and who sit several points behind us in league.

The rankings include games from late May to now. All games are weighted equally. So you may be seeing a team that did well in tournament play but not as well in league play. In a perfect world, you'd probably want to give the more recent games a higher weight but then you add complexity and subjectiveness to the methodology. At the end of league play, it might be an interesting exercise to run two sets of rankings. One with everything in it and one with only league play. Thanks for the question.

Where does the team manager enter the info? I don't think ours realizes she is supposed to do it. :D

Are you CSL, SCSDL or other? I know CSL has an app and an online website for managers and scorekeepers to enter scores. Our games are often updated online as the third whistle blows. :)

CSL. Is it the same APP that parents can use for schedules, standings, directions, etc?

SCOREKEEPING
This year Team Administrators will be responsible for the input of game results
and cards. Scorekeepers will be available to make corrections if needed.
Download the CSL mobile app (Its' Free!) from the Apple App Store or Google
Play. When you open the app and create an account enter your name as it
appears on your Team Admin menu and select Team Admin as your role. Then
go to the MY TEAMS section of the app and select your team to follow. Once
we verify your status you will see a Scorekeeping menu item on the app menu.

On game days in the Scorekeeping section your game will be show for you and
the opposing Team Admin. Enter the goals for each team, the number of
referees that officiated your game followed by the yellow, double yellow and
red cards given to each player and coach. Be accurate. Once you submit the
results the standings and scores are updated instantly and push notifications
with games results are sent to app users who are following any of the teams in
your bracket.

If the opposing Team Admin entered the results before you, the game input
item will not appear. If you see an error, please contact your Bracket
Scorekeeper or Age Coordinator to make corrections.
