CSL Reshuffling Exercise

With the new birth year matrix and teams splitting up there was a lot of worry in gaming circuits, especially Coast Soccer League who brackets teams based on merit/promotion. Now that the dust has settled, I've used my G04 rankings to see what level teams deserve to be at. I placed the top 8 ranked CSL teams as Gold teams, the next 14 teams as Silver-Elite teams and then the next 23 teams as Silver teams (same as current CSL distribution). Keep in mind this is nothing more than an exercise just to see how off the bracketing might be. Don't read too much into this. I'm not sure how well this will format here - but here it goes.

Notables:
Greater Long Beach - Mamnoon
Dropping from Silver Elite North to Bronze

LA Premier FC
Dropping from Silver Elite North to a Bronze level.

Valley United Garcia
Dropping from Silver North to a weak Bronze level.

BYSC Corona
Dropping from Gold to Silver

63 - Albion SC - OC White - CSL Silver Elite - CSL Bronze South

So they are in Bronze but their ranking puts them at CSL Silver Elite? Correct?

Yes, but there is a little more uncertainty with teams like them in this ranking system since a large portion of their ranking is beating up on bad teams. But I would bet that they would be a better Silver-Elite team than LA Premier and Greater Long Beach Mamnoon. In reality they probably just belong in Silver now instead of Bronze.

Fair assessment.

It almost seems like you should have 4-5 tourneys first, then based on those results you could put teams in to the proper grouping.

You could probably figure it out with 3 "pre-season" games. Certainly for Bronze teams. My understanding is that all teams need to start in Brozne. You may have a rockstar team that gets put there. And then they mow through everybody. It's almost a waste of a year for them if they don't have any competition. Then they get to Silver / Silver Elite the next year and it takes them a while to adjust to the speed and physicality of the game.

I think

I think BYSC belongs in Gold. They are competing in the games.

Rumor on the street for next year to really get the shuffle going is that Rangers are moving to SCDSL, I guess parents have had enough of the driving 2 plus hours each way for a 1 hour game.

Eagles and LAGSD will be in DA. Who knows what CSL will look like. Odds are it won't be very strong.

Re-seeding teams after a series of qualifying tournaments is a great idea when you have a wholesale remixing of teams like happened this year. The problem would be lack of enough time between the tournaments and league season for the schedulers to do their work.

For these 3 clubs the CSL teams will be the 3rd best team in the club:

7 - LA Galaxy SD Elite - CSL Gold - CSL Gold
13 - Eagles - CSL Gold - CSL Gold
32 - Albion SC Academy - CSL Gold - CSL Gold

Each would have a DA team, DPL team meaning that the 3rd team will be comprised of the CSL team. This is what it looks like:

http://www.coastsoccer.com/2017/BG13XX.HTM

it appears that LAGSD, EAGLES and ALBION have pulled their teams from CSL at the G2004 age group.

Eagles doesn't have a "third" team at G04.
